Unallocated Disk. HELP!

my friend sent me this image. how do he proceed? he said, he move the harddisk from one laptop to another, and now ittl not showp up at the file explorer. and will it format the disk?

MORE INFO : 

The Hardisk is external, the first time its used, it works normally. but after a lonng time not being used. when he tried to use it. it go like this(the picture).

From Windows perspective, it's already "formatted". The file system on the drive must be something Windows doesn't understand (Linux or Mac?), or the drive was in some sort of RAID previously.

 

If there are things your friend wants to keep, put the drive back where it came from and copy stuff off before proceeding. If not, go ahead and click "OK" and format the drive for the file system of choice.

Short answer: yes, in that all the files will be gone.

 

Longer answer: not yet, but it will probably destroy whatever other formatting is on the disk. That prompt is asking which type of partition map to create, which will overwrite whatever one was there before (if there was one? Usually that only applies to drives that are brand new...). You can then create a partition and format it with a file system, at which point it will show up as a drive in Windows.

Doesn't look formatted to me... Might be that the partition table is missing. 

Just click OK and it will create the partition table.

Yup, no partition table.

 

You did not say anything about what you want. Do you jsut want to use the disk or are there files on it that need recovering? The instructions are NOT the same at all in a case or the other.

Then do not touch or "OK" anything. Give it to someone who has experience in data recovery and is able to try and recover the partition table.
