Hey All,

As the title states, I have a question about workflow. Primarily directed towards Video Content Creators. I am not a big channel, nor do I have a setup like Linus. One man, one machine (kinda).

So how do you do your workflow. I will include my process for comment, and any refining is welcome.

1. Record Video (Usually 2-5 at a time) (normally gaming)

2. Sort into appropriate file.

3. Open Vegas and Import Video.

4. Import Video File into Soundforge and pull vocals out. Refine Audio.

5.Import better audio file into Vegas and play through the video looking for editing that needs to be done.

6. Render on Separate Machine

7. Upload to YT, create Thumbnail, Tag, all that good crap.

8. Mark it off on my daily Planner.

Any suggestions, or ways to quicken it?

One thing to add to your workflow: between steps 2 and 3, add a step to create a backup copy of all original files. You can delete those once the final video file is created.

Wife's build: Amethyst - Ryzen 9 3900X, 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200, ASUS Prime X570-P, EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 12GB, Corsair Obsidian 750D, Corsair RM1000 (yellow label)

My build: Mira - Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB EVGA DDR4-3200, ASUS Prime X470-PRO, EVGA RTX 3070 XC3, beQuiet Dark Base 900, EVGA 1000 G6

Not knowing your channel or content, do you have to record your bit over the video game as its happening or is it something that you can do after the fact?

If you can record the audio as a separate track or after the fact it means you get to cut out the step of pulling the vocals out of the game audio. even if you had to record the vocals after the fact you are at least then doing a simpler set of edits as you should now have an easier time making the edits necessary for your videos.

Agreed.  I have a storage NAS that I backup project files to before I start my edit.  Then when I'm done I drag the project folder onto the NAS so it adds in my audio files and any additional stuff generated during the edit.

I basically work the exact same way as you but I backup a few points in there.  At the end of the edit I backup the completed video to an External HDD AND my NAS.  That way I have the completed video backed up in two separate locations and the full project files on the NAS for future use.

Some would call saving the full project files overkill and I can't argue it, but I often call back to past videos, so having the full quality files to refer back to is nice.

Heck just last week I pulled up some drone footage I shot in 2018 and I re-edited it from scratch.  I was FAR happier with my edit I did last week than I was in 2018 when I originally edited it. It was just a fun exercise I was only able to achieve by having that stuff saved.

Ryzen 7 2700X , Asus Prime X570-Pro, Bykski CPU Block, AMD Vega 56, Barrow GPU block, g.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB PC2800, Dual EKWB SE360 Radiators, Corsair RM750x PSU. All in a Lian-Li PC011 Dynamic XL case.

I  record audio at the same time as my video, however, I prefer to master it a bit so it sounds cleaner.

What i'm getting at is if you break the sound recording off to another track so so the game audio and video are one file and then you record the audio commentary either to an external device or via a piece of software that lets you pull from just one input such as a daw.

My audio is separated in track different than game audio. When I pull it into soundforge, the way it is setup, it only pulls vocals.
