What motherboard do you have?

Need to know the motherboard. With that CPU though, a 660/660Ti/670 would be good (670 might start to bottleneck). Honestly, you probably wouldn't notice the difference between PCI-E 2.0 and PCI-E 3.0.

My cpu is core i3 2100....

now i want to buy a gpu..

i3 2100 is an 1155 socket with PCI-E 2.0 Revision (even if you knew the mobo, PCI-E 3.0 means nothing without the CPU to support it).

 

That being said, a 660 to a 760 (stick with the cards that end in 60 for NVIDIA) will work fine.

Even if you upgrade the CPU, you still won't need a PCI-E mobo unless you're doing the on-board crossfire with higher end AMD cards.

Your mobo doesn't support it, but I'm not sure about your CPU. They're backwards compatible though.

That mobo does support PCI-E 3.0 but only if you have a CPU that supports it. The i3 will not, unfortunately.

As everyone said, PCI-E 3.0 and 2.0 are backwards compatible, however, do not let it mislead you to believe that 3.0 will be faster for any card currently out there. I believe the only cards that have any benefit are R290X crossfired. Beyond this, performance on both are identical since no card out there has close to the bandwidth requirements PCI-E 3.0 has to offer.
