Paperclip made my PC shut off [LOL]

Zikama

So I was bored and I found a paperclip which I started to bend and play with, then I inserted the paperclip into my USB on my laptop, and instantly my PC Shut off instantly. I tried it a couple of times and also on my Desktop and it worked all the times. Not sure why, but I think it was due to a short circuit, still pretty impressive you can make your PC shut down due to the USB.

Yes, shorting out your PC is a great idea. Everyone should try it!

A lot of laptops have failsaves for this, though. Where they refuse to boot after being short-circuited.

Pull out the battery of the laptop and re-insert it, that will enable it to boot again.

Maybe, but I still think it's pretty stupid to insert a metal object into your PC port in the first place :D (especially when you didn't know what it would do)

That is the worst advice you could possibly give in this situation. Shutting your PC off abruptly can corrupt files on your OS not to even mention the possible hardware damage.

I know lol, and of cause you shouldn't keep doing it for many times, it just find it wierd, cause the USB interface only featured around 6 Volt of power.

I like how you're trying to reason with someone trying to get people to short out their USB sockets. I sense an optimist in you :P

Yeah i dunno how it happened. The computer shut down so I turned it back on and logged back in. Went to "Computer" and all of a sudden I could get into a whole bunch of drives that weren't there before.

I already posted this half a year ago, but when I inserted my thumbdrive into a USB thingy of one of the uni's PCs it shorted and shutdown.
