On my 290X the chokes next to the VRM's have some liquid stuff around them near the seals around half way down, is this something to do with how they're made and perfectly normal or is something wrong?

Thanks!

I believe your caps have burst. RMA it.

The card works absolutely fine, there is just some liquidy stuff around the caps

Yeah, it might work fine for now... I'd still RMA it if there is liquid on the caps that you didn't put there. Sign of caps that are going to die soon.

Its a card that is only about two weeks old, overclocks fine, no artifacting, etc. It was there when the card was first opened brand new. So must be something that's normally there?

I'm telling you it's fine for now. I'd still RMA it.

I didn't have any on my card.

The caps are filled with an electrolytic fluid, and all caps will fail eventually...

Leakage of that fluid is a very bad sign.

Is it actually wet or could it be some sort of resin that just looks like a liquid?

I think it's some sort of resin, doesn't look like something bad, I had this on the last 2 290's I had

I think if the stuff isn't wet and appears to just be a resin, it could be just fine (there's only really a problem if the stuff did come out of the caps).

The part that has the resin on the chokes is where I have outlined in red

Does the post above (where the resin/fluid is) change ur decision, or u still think it's something that warrants an RMA?

It doesn't look like there is any leakage from the them

Ahhh yeah, the choke should only have two coils of wire inside, no liquid. So that resin is probably just epoxy to keep the unit sealed.

If it's dry, it's probably meant to be like that and was just a slightly messy job by whoever manufactured the component.
