This past march I built my first pc with a Ryzen 7 1700x, Asus prime x470 pro, 16gb of gskill tridentz rgb ram, an nzxt kraken x52, and a Corsair rm750 power supply. My CPU keeps overheating from thermal protection it exceeds 90 C and shuts down. I've reseated my cooler and replaced the thermal paste (Arctic mx4). My bios and chipsets are up to date, im trying to do the windows version 1903 update but it shuts down around 20% each time. Somebody please help!

Have you tried using different cooler? There is a chance however unlikely it may be that your cooler may not be working properly, maybe the pump isn't working. Also makes sure that you've got the cables that power the pump connected.

That cooler has been working for the past months, and the rpm of the cooler is recognized in the bios. Also replacing it isnt really an option

Did your 1700x come with the stock cooler in the box? Might not be a bad idea to bust that baby out and see if she stays running. Could also look into undervolting that CPU. Would not surprise me if the system is trying to run 1.4-1.5v through it stock....

My First (Current) Build:

Ryzen 7 2700 (3.90 1.35v OC) | Asus Prime X470 Pro | G.Skill Ripjaws V 16gb 3200 | Inland Professional 512gb M.2 NVME | Samsung 860 Evo Sata M.2 1TB | Corsair H115i Platinum | Corsair ML 140 RGB Fans | Fractal Design Meshify C | EVGA RTX 2070 XC Ultra

Laptop:

HP Spectre X360 13t Gem Cut (i7 8565u, 240gb, 8gb mem)

My Ride:

2015 VW Golf TDI Sportwagen

Eventually an XJ manual...

It didn't come with a stock cooler, I will try to undervolt it tho. Also dont x series Ryzen chips come out of the box overclocked?

What case are you using and how is the cooler mounted?

What rpm are the pump and fans running at?

My pc is using an nzxt h500, I know the front isn't the best for airflow, and that is where my aio is with 2 fan from the front and 2 drawing air out in the back, Aio is running at 2755 rpm and the other fans don't show up in my bios but are running inside the case

Yeah, that's near max pump rpm. Are the fans connected to the pump? If so, you should be able to see the speeds with NZXT CAM.

You can also try removing the front panel and see if that's what's causing your high temps.

Cam says they're running at 2000 rpm, also there's no way to remove the front panel

Are you using default motherboard settings?

Were temps fine before?

Yes everything is default and has been working perfectly before besides when I had to RMA my motherboard because we lost power during a bios flash and it was replaced. The only thing changed was to ignore my CPU fan because I have an aio. And yes temps were fine it idles around 25 C

I'm assuming you have the cpu overclocked. What do you have the cpu frequency and voltage set to?

Intel Core i7 9700F / Cooler Master 212 Evo / GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER / 16 GB G.SKILL RAM @ 2666MHz / GA-B365M-DS3H / EVGA 500w PSU

HP Pavilion Gaming 15 / Ryzen 5 4600H / GeForce GTX 1050 / 8 GB @ 3200MHz

Idle temps aren't very important. Do you know what the load temps were before?

Make sure that the cooler is fully and evenly tightened. Go in an X-pattern and gradually screw it in as opposed to one side before another.

That's what I did when I put it back on

Thanks to everyone who posted on here trying to help me, my issue resolved itself, I did undervolt the cpu using the ryzen master utility software (it didn't help) but thanks for the suggestion. My temps are idling around 22 to 27 C and I hit a max of 41 C when playing destiny 2 after like 3 hours
