Spending £1000 for a 10% increase in performance is a very bad idea. If you are happy with that upgrade, then you'll surely be happy with what you currently have. Are there any issues with your current build that means you need to upgrade?

I can't understand why you're following this upgrade path, especially when you can just drop a new CPU in to your motherboard

are you talking about the bottleneck calculator? that thing is worthless.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

just 1 question. why.

everything here is a sidegrade other than the cpu. what are you doing?

just buy a new cpu. you dont need to spend 1000$

As long as you understand you're wasting money like a boss, and RTX gaming is a very useless implementation outside of screenshots... rock it.  Looks like a good build.

It needs to be smaller because I’m going into big exams this year and my parents want my desk to less “gaming” oriented, I want to play mainly battlefield 5 at 4K, so 2070 seemed a solid option, and the 1080 has been feeling really slow lately so I wanted to upgrade

The case you selected is almost the same size as the current PC case you have, so that makes no sense. Just slap a new CPU and graphics card into your current system instead

This makes no sense.  1080 "feeling" slow?  Any FPS numbers to back this up?

Yeah, it's a solid PC.  It's a barely upgrade for you,but if you were building it without having a machine in the first place... it's a good build.

No f-ing way to hit 4K in Battlefield 5 with RTX on with a 2070.

With Ray Tracing? You're going to want at least a 2080 Super. However the go to card for 4K high refresh rates and ultra to max settings is the 2080ti.

4K RTX... basically requires a 2080Ti for decent frame rates.  2080 Super will do 4K at 60Hz without RTX on I think with settings tweaks.

Honestly, going for 4K is the weakest part of your argument.

Not on Operation Underground. You'll get about 60fps average on most maps, probably 45 on Operation Underground at 4k. But that's average fps. The lows will be awful.

I'd go down to 1440p or 1080p, go to low settings and keep your gtx 1080.

And also..Battlefield V loves AMD cards. 5700XT is on par with the 2080 Super pretty much in that game. That will give you a big improvement over the 1080, but save you $300 over the 2080 Super. Yes you lose RTX, but in a competitive game like BFV you won't want RTX.

In your current situation if you want to be able to play 4K ultra settings with RTX at over 60hz you will need a 2080ti, at minimum $1200 USD just for the GPU, a 3700x or better would be the preferred CPU as well.

If you don't have that type of budget I'd say ditch the 4K idea all together. Upgrade your CPU and GPU (I'd say a 3600 and 2080 Super) and go 1440p for the monitor, keep the rest of your current components. Or just upgrade your CPU to the 3700X keep your 1080 and do 1440p.

Honestly the whole making it small so it's less "gamer" to please your parents seems pretty ridiculous, I don't know how old you are but seems to me if you are having parental issues such as these I'd say 16 or under. If so are your parents that don't like you gaming paying for these upgrades or are you? It doesn't make sense that they'd be that against it then shell out a thousand plus dollars to upgrade your computer, that just seems weird. As for the whole making it small, how is that going to make them less angry at you gaming? You'll still spend the same amount of time on it, maybe more after the upgrade, will they really think since it's smaller it will make you use it less? I don't get the ideology behind that.

15 and a half, I’m paying for it out of my own pocket, and my desk is like 90% setup right now, 10% homework+ school books+ actual workspace. The pc tower is huge and obvious and they don’t like it, so agreed to sell the big pc and buy a smaller, sleeker, slightly more powerful pc. Like the idea of just a cpu upgrade and keep 1080 at 1440p
