How do i change this ???

So when trying to open optifine (a minecraft mod/ client for things like modding and shaders) which is a .jar all it does is quickly open a cmd window and then does nothing, what should i open it with to make it work ???

You have to run it in a Java environment, so probably right click it and click something with Java runtime in the name.

If you have a zip file application like 7-zip or Winrar installed it can affect it. You need to delete the application and make sure you have the most recent version of java installed then redownload optifine.

You can try running it from the command line as "java -jar optifine.jar".

Why are you trying to open the .jar file?  It's used by Minecraft, nothing else.

You need to run it to install it, and to install it you need to double click on the setup file, which is a .jar

No, you don't.  You put the .jar file in a mod folder and point the MC launcher to it.

 

Minecraft opens it as it loads itself.

yeah where is the mod folder, it doesn't have one unless i get something like forge, which is also a .jar

%appdata folder holds Minecraft, in that is a mod folder.

 

Finding the Minecraft mods folder

1. On Windows: do Start / Run / %appdata%, or type %appdata% into the location field of the Windows Explorer; then open Minecraft.

I think you need Forge to load in Optifine anyway, if memory serves.

Now you can add it as a new version in the launcher by itself, i done it on my old pc but that was 2 years ago

I fixed it, just had to run jarfix
