Show the bios on my ASRock B360M IB-R motherboard and the BIOS I don't see any option for an XMP profile..?

As far as I know and have researched the only way you can get the most out of your ram speeds or all were clock your RAM is with an XMP profile from the BIOS Is this correct?

With that being said I change RAM from 2666 to a 3000 speed ram the bass clock speed is still going to be higher or more than what it would be at 3000 vs 2666?

Hi Mate, I don't see that model on their website, and a quick search shoed me that it might be an OEM motherboard, which might have different to usual BIOS settings (and might not support XMP).

Memory will run at its rated JDEC speed without XMP enabled, and so 2666 may run at the same speed as 3000 depending on the memory.

For the ASRock B360M Pro4 (try this on yours) open the "OC Tweaker" menu in the BIOS, then "DRAM Configuration", then "DRAM Timing Configuration" to load the XMP settings. I believe it's Profile 1 Level 1.

Well I played with it a set of RAM sticks at 2666 alone will not run up to 2666 it says the target is 2667 .  But it when it comes down to it it shows it's running at 2133

And even if I put a set of sticks in it that are 3200 it will still only max out at 2133

It seems like no matter what I do I cannot get it to run any faster than 21 33 there is a setting in there to bump it up to 2666 but it won't go that high so no matter what I do it doesn't seem to support anything more than 2133

So with that being said when I upgrade my CPU and motherboard I will be doing some research to make sure that it supports faster RAM speeds or has the option of XMP profiles

But if I'm not mistaking pretty much anything AMD nowadays takes advantage of faster RAM speeds

Could you link us where you bought the board from? You also mentioned AMD but the closest boards Google found are all LGA sockets.

Yes I will be upgrading to AMD right now I have an Intel i7 8700  I didn't buy the motherboard separate had come in a pre-build

Yes the “standard” JEDEC (not XMP) speed is 2133MHz for 2666MHz memory, but as @RAM555789 says, this board is an Intel board, and you mention AMD?

was it from Best Buy it similar?

Yes I mentioned AMD I said I'm going to upgrade to AMD I currently have an i7 8700 LGA 1151 socket and yes it was a pre-build

I'm going to upgrade the motherboard and CPU to AMD I know that AMD takes advantage of RAM speeds where Intel does not so much

Ok thanks, I understand. Do you have any of those BIOS options I mentioned?

If not, it seems likely you can’t enable XMP on that OEM board unfortunately, and without manually over clocking will be “stuck” at JEDEC 2133MHz.

You are right about AMD CPU’s; the New AMD 3000 series’ (I assume that’s where you’ll be heading) “standard” memory speed is 3200MHz using XMP Profile 1 Level 1, and people get much more out if the CPU with the right memory.

good luck with it all :)

Without being able to show you it's really kind of hard to explain... There is a place to go into this comes up and says XMP profile and it allows you to change from a few different options but when you change it it doesn't seem to do anything or apply changes

I was going to upgrade to the 3900 x but from what I understand the 3950 x is supposed to come out in november so I'm just going to wait for that

Maybe you could take a picture and show us the options? Also the board will cap out at 2666Mhz speed.

That's fine The target speed will say 2667 in bios

But for some reason it won't run past 2133 I'm okay with a cabin out at 2666
