Windows doesn't remember my volume settings...

"Why does my computer ALWAYS turn on with the volume at an unreasonable 68? I want it closer to either of those digits as single digits. It is loud and scary every time and then I have to adjust my volume. I would think it would remember. I don't think I've met a computer who forgot. It just updated last night. And it was still stupid loud this morning."

This is the message I received from a friend of mine, and I can't seem to find an answer online. Anybody know?

It's a brand new Asus ROG Hero laptop.

Well, this is one of those issues that probably falls under the Windows bugs features. I don't think there's a specific reason, it may be a driver issue, a Windows issue, anything: my first question is what computer are we talking about? A laptop or a desktop? Then, what's the PC model / sound card / DAC ?

That's what I told her, but in layman's terms. LOL. It's this laptop:

Fresh out of the box, no audio peripherals. I'm not familiar with that model, and she's in a different state, so I can't look at it first hand.

Ok, I thought it was a laptop because they tend to have Windows volume issues, but in reverse: they remember the volume of the speakers when you plug headphones in and vice versa. Source: personal experience :P
If by "fresh out of the box" you mean Windows didn't get reinstalled, that issue could be cause by some OEM crappy software (which is the reason people, including me, always reinstall a fresh Windows right after opening the box and checking everything's in order). In this case, there isn't really much to try and do other than reinstalling the OS or reinstalling the audio drivers or smth like that, which is just randomly guessing what could be the culprit...
