I didn't notice until after trying to boot the pc a few times and have the power go through the PSU but when I noticed the CPU was way too hot for the pc whilst being off and the ram was also heating up. I thought about the PSU, when I took it out it smelt really badly like burning. I don't know the possible after effect to the parts and if they were fryed. But the PC made no attempt to turn on when I tried to turn on the first time, but the White power LED on the front was on. Indicating power running to there. So I'm not too sure if it fryed anything or if it is able to do that.

Specs:

Ryzen 3 2200G

Gigabyte B450M DS3H

2X8GB Corsair Vengance

GTX 1050 TI from Gigabyte

Corsair CX450M

You're just going to have to try a new power supply. also take everything out of the case when you try it with the new power supply, case might be causing a short somehow.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

So try all of the components out side of the case with the PSU inside once I get a new one? or just everything out?

Wich series CX is that? The green ones or one of  the (later models) grey ones?

With the greens I wold not be surprised. Also how old is it? Corsair has decent warranties on their PSUs most of the time.

I am relatively sure there is nothing fried, because you have a modern system and there are many over voltage/current protection systems integrated etc.

BUT DONT try to power on with the smelly PSU. DO you have a different unit to test with?

try everything outside (maybe on the MOBO box) is the safest alternative

Like don't use the case for anything, and make sure everything inside it is clean/flat so it doesn't bridge anything.

Normally if there's a short like that from the case, the PC will just refuse to turn on to protect itself.

Thats the newer one, wich is not as crappy.

But I think you should take everything out of the case and then test with the PSU form the other system. If that works you can take the chance and retest with the CX

If it does not work you have to test component per component to see what got fried

BUT if you still have warranty): RMA the CX. Burny smell is never good :P

Do you have important data on the affected system?

It never booted. This pc was just built, so no data would be lost.

ouh! Did you check every connection etc? Maybe something not plugged properly?

But if the PSU is damaged its a DOA (dead on arrival) and definitely eligible for a RMA :)

Yeah I checked and triple checked. I took it apart and rebuilt it because there where a few things noticeably wrong with It. I'm taking over from someone that kinda messed up with building it. So im not too sure what they did during the process of them having it and me receiving it. But it was not amazing when I got it. All I know is that they may have fried a motherboard and a PSU when they first tried to boot it (Not fact checked) so im not sure if the CPU was affected either. But I would need to test everything which I think would be the CPU if its not the PSU. But im not too sure. And they bought a new motherboard(this being the one) and a new psu(There both the same PSU so there not too sure which one was maybe fryed and which one wasent)

hm okay.. simply test everything to nail down whats affected and not. For this process: simply build on the desk. No risk of a short and much more convenient for testing

White LED on the front of what?  The motherboard?

If the PC isn't "on", the CPU and RAM shouldn't be getting hot.

So was it on or not?

Was the fan spinning on the PSU?

Nothing was spinning, the white power LED on the case was on (corsair Spec-05), the RAM was hotter than before. and when I felt the back of the motherboard where the CPU would be. It was hot, really hot. My pc that has a better CPU is not that hot whilst on.
