So here's the story..

Specs:

CPU: i7 3770 (i assume that this cpu still has some ballz in 2019)

GPU: Rx 580 8gb (Clearly not the bottleneck)

PSU: Cx550m (Not the best but is the grey label**)

MOB: H61m-e  (She will do)

RAM: 1x8gb ddr3 1600mhz gskill  (F3-1600C11S-8GNT)

So, my games have been running terrible, like gta v i would be getting 40-50fps on med (Msaa is off). battlefield 1 25-90fps all settings (Stuttering mess on dx12, dx11 just low low fps). Games like battlefront 2 run perfectly ultra, 72fps.

I was running an extra 4gb of ddr3 and it was just running worse, even though i had it in the b1 slot along with the 8gb in the a1, and its timing were running exact same timings and lattency, and was certain it was running dual channel. just removed the 4gb and using the 8gb.

Would i be worth buying another stick of the gskill, and run 16gb dual channel or try and find something with higher clocks? (No i cannot buy ddr4 my cpu only supports ddr3 and im a budget boy)

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if this was the problem. You're running a top of the line 95W cpu in a bargain bin motherboard with a 4pin cpu power connector. Try running cinebench and check your cpu clocks and usage, it might be power limited.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Yeah i did a few userbenchmarks and my cpu performs in top percentiles, also usage is no more than 90% on most of these tiltes, oddly my gpu sits at 100% but i think its either just the games way of utilising it, or just acting odd to the ram bottlenecking.

not really, most h61 boards does support 95w cpu so i don't think that's the issue. Also 3rd gen i7, just like the i5 of it's generation is a 77w chip. Only 2nd gen i5 and i7 are 95w.

Fair enough, forgot about that. Still wouldn't be my choice but...

If both your cpu and gpu are getting fully utilized then there is no bottleneck. Is either of them overheating?

Ram speed can affect your performance but I've never heard of anything so dramatic. There are videos of similar setups to yours performing a lot better.

Nah i keep them nice and low cpu is 60 celsius, gpu is 65-70 celsius (rx 580 so under normal temps). cpu does jump alot like 25% - 90%, same with gpu sits at 100% in menus, but think rivatuner is just weird.

i tried to run bf1 with 8gb and it was so unplayable like 10fps, so 12gb was better.
