I am a semi pro overwatch player and i need help with my FPS drops problem. I had this PC for nearly a year, the early months were fine I was capping 300 consistently and dropped to 220 at really stressful moments on lowest settings possible 1920 x 1080 and 100 render scale. It was getting worse but by bit but I didn’t really care since it wasn’t too much of an issue (220-280 consistent). This month it got really bad dropped to 80 and the highest was 240 but it varied a lot and was extremly inconsistent meaning a lot of screen tearing and making the game hard overall( please note I know difference between 144 and 240 isn’t much but the fact it drops all the time goes back up then even goes to 80 is really bad. So I decided to make the resolution 1280 x 720 with 50 render scale and it looks like I’m playing an arcade game but it still helps the FPS a little now it’s (100-240) but still varies and drops.

I tried a lot of solutions like running overwatch as admin. Reinstalling driver trying previous ones. Reinstalled windows. Deleted razor synapse corshair iq and GeForce experience. I minimize the tabs that are in use and put overwatch on high priority in task manager. I also lowered the settings from the nvidia control panel it self.

Specs:

i9 900K

RTX 2080 Strix OC

Corshair vengeance 16gb

Asus motherboard IX Hero WIFI

I will edit this post soon to add in my benchmarks

YES I am wary I may need to return the gpu or cpu since I have figured that may be the problem but any other solutions would be nice before I start returning hardware(I have warranty on multiple of my hardware so it’s fine if I need to resort to that)

Edit: The temps are not a problem I re applied thermal paste already. The temps are 37-38.

Might also try to run Dr. Web CureIt! or Emsisoft Emergency Kit just to be sure.

One more thing that might help is the problem is in software - Dism++, Win10Tweaker and some other things that can tweak Windows and turn off some things (or clean your SSD/HDD).

Link to GDrive folder in my signature has everything except virus scanning tools.

Does sound hardware-y

I mean do the less drastic things like reseating RAM, etc.

But like you said, might be the GPU... make sure it's not cooking itself and it has adeuqate cooling

Dammit, I wanted to say about thermal stats... Thanks for reminder.

To OP: If temps are ridiculous even with 100% fan speeds, I'd suggest reapplicating thermal paste using something as good as MX-4.

First thing to check is always thermals, download MSI afterburner or something, open it, play for a while and check what the max CPU and GPU temps were.

BTW what case do you have?

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

@Spakes sorry I forgot to state in the post the temps are fine actually they are actually pretty low. 37-40.

Try FurMark + AIDA64 stress tests to make sure. Leave them for 15-60 minutes and post results here (don't forget to tag me when you'll post results).
