i now have a 16 XG 16 port 10gbit switch as the backbone of my network, but still use my 16 port 150 watt quite a lot... since i am far from populated on my 10gig switch, i was thinking.

could i just plug 2 sfp cables from the 10gbit into to the sfp ports on my other 16 port, then have 2/2 gbit between the switches, to get the most out of my server on 1gbit devices, i know that one device does not hammer it, but i have 2 steam link servers that will run on that 10 gbit, and would be nice to not just hammer the link between the 2 switches..

or do i have to aggregate in some way?

HEHE already had that switch taken apart, the fan noise was horrendous, one fan after losened a bit got way quieter and put in 7v noctua cables, it made it nice and quiet and it moved from 39 degrees to 42degrees in my server room. so guess it just has to survive that. still 21 degrees lower than the other switch which as 68 degrees actually run fan off.

Normally you would use SFP between the switches and make that a Trunk while other ports are access ports. But are the SFP the only 10G ports on that switch? Is it possible for you to include a little network drawing about what you're trying to achieve?

all ports on the 16xg the 12 sfp+ and 4 copper are 10Gbe al other ports are 1gb on the 16 port poe switch.

the 16 port poe switch i going to run all.. "normal" traffic, you know my Wireless access points, smart home items, normal cat6 connections in wall, and xbox ps and so on..

the 10gbe switch will run servers, and main pc, so it has 10Gbe link between large data devices.. however, between the 2 switches it only has the copper at the moment .. so a 1Gbe supplying all devices in the hous.. would be nice just to give et 2Gbe, access to the 10gbe switch to give i a bit more bandwidth between switches...

the 2 sfp ports on the 16 port, is only 1gig as i understand it, i also has a sfp on my Edgerouter, and that is also 1gbe as i understand... so i cannot upling with 10gbe unfortunatly between switces

Ah so if i do understand correctly you want to have redundant links between the switches with 2x 1G link? This is possible with STP Etherchannel. This will load balance 2 links and make them act as 1 larger interface. Maybe that is what you want?

after a bit of examination i located that both my UNIFI´s have link aggregation.

so i paired 2 10gbe ports and 2 1gbe SFP ports on the 16 XG and the 16 port 1gbit, so now the link between the 2 switches are 2/2Gbit... so 220MB/Sec ish... eats two 10GBE ports on the expensive switch, but fine for now, only going to use 8 ports on it for my PC and servers.

That works too, good to hear that it works.
