970 sli for 140 or 1060 3gb

XS86

Looking for GPU for my second PC. I'm between a 970sli $140 and a 1060 3gb $115

I have a i7 3820 so I have the lanes for sli but idk if it's worth it.

You mean buying a second 970 or you already have a 970? The best thing would be getting a single 970, while if you already have one it doesn't make sense to get a useless second card or a weaker one

the 1060 really isn't that much better than 1 970 so I would get the SLI 970s and use SLI when available but even if a game doesn't support it, you'll see similar framerates with just 1 970. (You can try and see if he'll sell you just one for cheaper.)

why no dark mode?

No it's a package deal.  So I can't split it up. I guess I go with the 970 and see which one of better and sell the other. Thank you for the quick reply.

Using a single 1060 3gb would be better than sli 970's since sli is never used rn and the pascal card supports freesync, however i think that if he's not able to get a single one he should get both anyways and sell the second one

970 SLI

You still see some newer games with SLI compatibility, and if the game runs in DX11, there's a chance you can tweak the drivers to get it working manually. Also, if you play older games or plan to revisit older games, 970 SLI should hold up better than the 1060 3GB.
