Testing Laptop Battery Life

I wanted to test the battery life of my laptop (it feels like it's a little short), so I wanted to get some recommendations for how people test battery life (programs, methods, etc). I currently have the X1 Extreme Gen 2 and people are claiming 7-8+ hours of battery life, but I don't think I'm reaching that amount. I use the laptop for browsing the internet, watching videos and other light tasks when it's on battery and plug it it when gaming of using other programs that require heavy GPU usage. Thanks.

Run the laptop in different situations and time it until it dies

Any type of specific situations? And I guess the only way is to grab like a kitchen timer or something?

The situations you'd be using it in, or the situations that the manufacturer advertises

Windows 10 has a built in tool for monitoring battery life, including usage estimates, designed capacity and actual capacity. If the actual capacity is much lower (say more than 25%) than the designed capacity, you'll know you have a bad battery. 

It's called Powercfg.
