Gtx 660 Vs. 660ti Vs. 7850 Vs. 7870

DJmartin

Which one of these GPU's would be best for BF3 or Tomb Raider on high/ultra settings on a single 1080p moniter?

I personally own a gigabyte 7870 oc and in tombraider with tress fx on, I get in a range from 30-40 fps at 1080p so I probably wouldn't go for the 7850 if I was looking for great fps, but between the 7870 and the 660 it really depends on the prices in your region and the games bundled with the card. In Australia, AMD cards seem to be cheaper and come bundled with more and better games when compared to their Nvidia counterparts. The 660ti however is in a league above all of the other cards comparing with the 7950. Personally I would go for a 7950 and overclock it, but I am a bit biased towards AMD.

Assuming your system is well spec'ed enough, that is...a decent quad, 8GB RAM, a good 550W PSU or higher, it really depends on where you're from and the price range of the afore-mentioned cards. In my neck of the woods, a higher priced GTX660 is more expensive than a lower priced HD7870. In fact, an Asus DCU II GTX660 is priced exactly the same as the DCU II HD7870......making the HD7870 a better buy in my opinion. If you're considering a GTX660 Ti, then you should also consider the HD7950 which is its competitor.....pricewise. Again, if they are priced similarly, the HD7950 would be the better buy due to its sheer gaming performance, overclockability and game bundle.

I would say that the 660 Ti is the best card out of the bunch but it is significantly more expensive than the other cards and it isn't worth it for the extra 5 FPS you gain from spending $80ish more than 660. The 660 starts at $190 now and the 7870 starts at $220. The 7870 does come with 3 free games. The 7870 slightly out-performs the 660 but if you're not going to play the included games, I think the 660 is a better buy.

The OP did mention TR and BF3, games which the HD7870 would excel at. Here's a Sapphire HD7870 @199USD (with rebate card), comes with Crysis 3 Blood Dragon, Bioshock Infinite and TR (a game the OP has expressed interest in)

.....so, tell me, how does that make the GTX660 a better buy @190USD?

Rebates are a total joke. I've submitted at least 5 rebates and I received NONE.

As I said, if the OP doesn't care about games, the 660 would be a better buy since it's $15-20 cheaper than the 7870 w/out rebates. You can buy a 660 at $175 w/ a rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127699&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

If he does want the games, the 7870 would be the obvious better buy. The 660 and the 7870 perform almost identically with the 7870 slightly faster. We don't know if the OP bought TR or not so that's why I'm giving recommendations in different perspectives.

So, you did not get any rebate? Hmmmm, so I guess the one to blame is AMD, not the retailer that sold it to you? Others have gotten the rebate, so obviously, you'd messed up somewhere. BTW, even if the OP has the games, he can always sell them off to offset the cost of the card....or, did you not think of that?

No I'm still "waiting" for my Zotac 448 Core 560 Ti's rebate. AMD has nothing to do w/ rebates, it's the vendor. I didn't screw anything up b/c the tracking says that it will ship "soon" and the rebate has been processed.

Yes he could sell the games but it will take a lot of time and effort to gain a few more bucks. Besides, the games are getting harder to sell b/c everyone has them.
