i understand the first connector pcie 3.0 x4 and the other connector pcie 3.0 x2 but what does that mean?

what ssd i can connect in each connector?

1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 SATA and PCIe 3.0 x4/x2 SSD support) (M2A_SOCKET)

1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 PCIe 3.0 x2 SSD support)(M2B_SOCKET)

The top one can handle SATA and NVME & longer m.2 cards

The top slot can fit either sort of M.2 SSD. SATA or NVME/PCIE varieties, the bottom one can only do PCIE SSD's at PCIE 3.0 X2 speeds.

SATA M.2 SSD's use a B+M key connector, NVME/PCIE M.2 SSD's use the M key connector (so you can recognize either by the spec sheet, or just by checking if the SSD has one long line of pins + 1 or + 2 extra 'teeth')

Most M.2 PCIE SSD's use PCIE 3.0 X4, so X2 is half the speed (about 2GB per seconds, off the top of my head). That will limit the SSD speeds  bit, but it depends on the SSD you choose.

Keep in mind if you use an SSD in either slot, there may be some restrictions (e.g. turned off SATA ports/PCIE slots).

M Key is the cut out position, there's 2 different types, the other being B key.

2242/2260/2280/22110 is the length support.

X2 and/or X4 is SATA or NVMe

Hope that helps.

someone told me i can connect only 1 ssd to this motherboard..

First slot for SATA or PCIE.

Second slot for PCIE. The second slot does not support SATA.

What motherboard do you have, some of them have a pretty issue chart to see what will work in the board.

I 'circled' the most important part of the chart for you:

image.png.9863532276aeabeb55671cbfdeab20de.png

So if you're installing a SATA/PCIE M.2 SSD in the top slot and an PCIE M.2 SSD in the second slot, only SATA3 ports 0 and 1 will stay turned on. The others will turn off.

Keep that in mind if you have any (non M.2) SSD's, HDD's, Optical drives, etc. to install in your system.

EDIT: oh and yea, a PCIE 4.0 M.2 SSD will also work, of course limited by the lower speeds of PCIE 3.0.

yes i just checked this in manual, 1 sata is enough for me.

my mistake, i meant pcie 3.0 x4 in the pcie x2 slot.?

and im still not sure if i can connect 2 ssd because someone told me he can't.

PCIE 3.0 2x is up to 2GB/s, so of course a PCIE 3.0 4x M.2 SSD will work, but at up to 2GB/s.

From what I am seeing in the manual, there is no reason you couldn't run two SSD's in this board. Unfortunately I was not able to find anyone on PCPartPicker running two M.2 SSD's in this board, so I of course couldn't find 'definitive proof'.

But why have a second slot, when you couldn't use that even..? Looks like you can install a PCIE M.2 SSD in the slot just fine, perhaps someone was referring to installing an M.2 SATA in the second slot?

how you check this in pcpartpicker?

that's what i asked, maybe he he tried m.2 sata im not sure.

On PCPP I just checked all finished builds with the B450 Aorus Elite and didn't find anyone who used 2 M.2 SSD's. I also added 2 M.2 PCIE SSD's and that motherboard to a list and only flagged the turned off SATA Ports.

I will post below what is says on the website, with the 'simple explanation' of the sentences below it, in italics:

Quote

AMD Ryzen™ 2nd Generation/ Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics/ Ryzen™ 1st Generation Processors (If you have a Ryzen series CPU, not mentioned Ryzen 3000 though) :
1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (SATA & PCIE 3.0 x 4 mode)*1
AMD Athlon™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics Processors (If you have an AMD Athlon CPU):
1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (SATA mode)*1 (The difference here is that there is no M.2 PCIE support)
AMD Ryzen™ 2nd Generation/ Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics/ Athlon™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics/ Ryzen™ 1st Generation Processors : (If you have either sort of CPU, 2 of the SATA ports are connected directly to the CPU, the other 4 to the motherboard chipset)
2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s)
Support Raid 0, 1, 10
AMD B450 chipset :
4 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s),
Support Raid 0, 1, 10

So basically, the 1 M.2 slot on this board supports a certain mode, depending on the CPU installed.

The chipset is a part of the motherboard that 'does things', kind of like a small version of a CPU that can handle certain actions. A part of the motherboard can be directly connected to the CPU, or to the chipset. If it goes to the CPU, it is generally faster.

Not sure why it says 'integrated in the APU' part.. But that I think is just referring to the USB 3.0 ports on the back of the board

USB has changed their naming two times now:

'USB 3.1' is not even a proper name, because you would need to specific if it's the gen 1 or gen 2 variety.

So when I said USB 3.0, I meant what they called USB 3.1 (Gen 1).

Funnily enough, they called it 'USB 3.1 Gen 1'  in their specifications list, but call it 'USB 3.0' on the physical board:
