Posted September 19, 2019 So I have a prebuilt that I bought for cheap with an A12-9800 (65W TDP) and want to upgrade it with a graphics card to sell it for profit. I'm thinking cheap and used 1050/1050 Ti because the card needs to be short due to the very compact size of the Prebuilt (HP Pavilion 570). The PC comes with a 180W HP PSU that only has 68% effiency but the wattage is my main concern. The CPU+GPU total power draw would be 65W+75W, so 140W on the 12V Rail on a pretty inefficient 180W PSU. That also doesn't even to take into account the fact that the PSU has already been used. So would I need to upgrade the PSU or is there anyone who has gotten this kind of upgrade to work fine without a new power supply? I heard there are EU HP desktops that have a 1050ti and 65W CPU that still run on a 180W PSU. Also, the classification of the PSU is "uATX". What exactly does this mean? Posted September 19, 2019 Chances are the power supply will just die and possibly kill other components. Don't try imo Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1105635-180w-enough/#findComment-12902186 Share on other sites
 The letter u is typically associated with ATX to replace the greek letter mu, which is short for micro. I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B Primary PC: i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me. Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference. How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/1105635-180w-enough/#findComment-12902192 Share on other sites
 So, theoretically, I should be able to upgrade to a Standard-ATX PSU like this one https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=100-W1-0500-KR? There are some pretty good deals on PSUs in my area and someone is even willing to sell this PSU brand new to me for $10. Measurements (Inches): 3.4 x 5.9 x 5.5 yeah it should be able to utilize ATX PSUs, but that specific PSU is pretty terrible. $10 doesn't exactly get you much, in terms of PSUs all it gets you is garbage.
