Hi

I have put 2x USB 3.0 Card into my Server who was trilling enough for me. Now I try to put the USB over Glasfiber Adapter on and I dont see them or the USB Dongle I tried there.

Maybe the dont Support it. Ok...

Thankfully I out 2 USB Cards in (all PCI-E Ports are blocked now). I will use one Card to use them with external USB Dongle for a quick and dirty Backup Solution. If the die I put the next one into and so on...

I got multible Cards and thested then in some old Server bevor I putt them into my HP. Since I picket them who worded the show up:

FL1100 USB 3.0 Host Controller
ID 0000:09:00.0
Geräte-ID 0x1100
Anbieter-ID 0x1b73
Funktion 0
Bus 9
Anbietername Fresco Logic
Klassen-ID 0xc03
Untergeräte-ID 0x1100
Unteranbieter-ID 0x1b73
Steckplatz 0

The only think Idont now which one have the ID 9 and which have the ID 6 I must try it out but thats not a problem...
a) How to change the Controller in a Virtual Machine to USB 3.0? Does it is nectary to get the full speed?
b) Can I do something wrong when I select for one Controller the Option Passthrough?
c) When I select them can I put one Controller (sure that I selected) to an Virtual Machine that the Machine handle every think (like the USB to Glasfiber Adapter) as Local?
Thanks

USB to Fiber adapter

Stop thats not right its a USB OVER Fiber Adaper. 2x Boxes with a normal Fiber Cable in between.

Theoretically transparent for Local and Remote sadly the behave very weired. Now I know how the work and what kind of error the could produce.

OH! Whoops, I read that wrong. So you're passing USB over fiber, gotcha.

Well that blows my theory out of the water =/

Correct, once you pass through the physical device the VM has full control over it and is no longer part of the ESXi host management. From that point you treat it as a physical device like you would on a bare metal install i.e not VM hardware but real hardware. You need to add the device to the VM though, that's all ESXi has control over for a passthrough enabled device.

Multiple part answer, both yes and no. You first have to enabled a device for passthrough support and this requires a reboot of the host. If you pick the wrong device all that will happen is that anything connected to that device will stop working under ESXi as it's now available for passthrough only. If you pick the wrong one just disable it as a passthrough device and reboot the host then pick the other device.

I'm not too sure overall what you are asking or trying to achieve, your post doesn't make clear sense but language barrier so all good. I think once you get the passthrough going you will be able to figure it out yourself, you know what you need and just need to get the hardware functioning in the VMs.

There is nothing right now who must be connect to the USB 3.0 Card so I could not select the wrong. I would choose one and see which one of the physical Card it is.

I use the USB over Glasfiber just as an extender for the USB Connection. Maybe you heard about SDR Stuff? Its just a Analogue (Radio Signal) to Digital Converter who I can Decode Multiple Signals at once. That Software I use require a) 24/7 System or I "loose" Data and b) a lot of CPU Power so I will run it truth my Server System to process the Data. Some People use 20x or more Pis for but I think that is insane when I can use one Physical Server...

So all Dongle must be accessible from the Virtual Machine. The best think will be when I make the Card as passthrough.
