Google privacy breach?

Hi all,

 

I have had the issue in this article for some time

In my case I'm receiving all sorts of stuff from dating Web sites to car service reminders

Possibly from multiple accounts 

Google seems to be ignoring the problem 

With other recent privacy issues I think this needs to be published so they actually do something about it

Okay slow down there, that's a bit far with too little information.

 

I've never heard of emails getting sent to someone else but judging by that article you posted, it looks to be the way the email address is made with periods.

Did you only recently start to receive other's emails or have you had this since you made your Gmail?

to gmail, periods aren't relevant at all, ie

exam.ple@gmail.com is the same as e.xample@gmail.com

This is probably not a security breach or a privacy issue at all.

Most likely someone with a very similar name/address signed up for these sites and accidentally entered your address instead of theirs, either due to a typo or the person not really knowing their actual address.  Happens more often than you'd think.

 

I see you mentioned reminders for car services.  Send that dealership a mail back to inform them that the customer who gave them that address actually gave them the wrong one.  Perhaps add to the mail that you're getting lots of mails from sites/services (don't mention which ones, as that would be an actual breach of privacy), probably due to the same person handing out the wrong info everywhere.  They'll happily contact that customer by phone, as having the correct address is important to them too.

I had the email for a few years before the emails started.

They come through as my email without the period 

I have received all sorts of email, and I can't unsub because, I believe, the real address that was a derivative of mine.

I have tried, for genuine sites, but they still come through.

I have also received emails about peoples children from schools, house purchases and the like so it truly is a privacy breach.

And a pain in the posterior, with all the spam I get from dating sites and the like as well.

 

I believe that it is multiple addresses thar are being forwarded to my inbox because there is multiple different names referencing different parts of America.

So either it is a major flaw in Google's Gmail server or this one guy has some serious issues with multiple wife's in different states with girlfriends on the side. Not out of the question I know but seriously.

 

BTW I am not one of those crazy theory people, just someone who is sick of all the unwanted emails.

how common is your email? if its just your name @ gmail or something then lots of people might accidentally send emails to you because some other person's email is the same name with some numbers and the person sending forgot the numbers.

them are plain old spam mail...i get them all the time after quiet for a long time...the randomness is kind of like a phone robo dialer. and the emails usually uses the first part of the email address (usually hoping you use your name as the first) and throw that in the message, or some site you signed up for sold your email info

just click them as spam and after a bit they only show up in the spam box
