MX500 or m.2

I have a Gigabyte B450 Aorus M motherboard, which has an m.2 slot. I don't know whether to get the Crucial MX500 1TB or the Crucial P1 as a primary boot drive. I hear m.2 drives are faster, but I always hear they have more compatibility issues than sata SSDs. If the P1 isn't a good choice, are there any other 1tb m.2 drives in the same price range? I'm a noob at m.2 drives.

 

Also, My mobo comes with an m.2 heatsink, so should I use (non conductive) thermal paste on the m.2?

the cheaper option, unless you do something that requires extremely heavy disk usage there wont be any appreciable difference between SATA and NVME storage. M.2 can be a little neater as you dont need to run cables too it though

This is why I have 860 EVO's in M.2, cleaner and neater.  

 

 

I would buy SSD's on a bang/buck basis, regardless of SATA vs NVMe.

The P1 does slow down as it gets full I've noticed, but it's still doesn't fall beneath SATA speeds.

I will never use a 2.5" drive when M.2 is an option though. Soooooo much cleaner. I haven't had to run SATA power in most of my builds. It is a wonderful thing.

Very much a nice to have vs. a need though.
