The Best iPad Keyboard Setup

Hey all

 

Can anyone recommend a cohesive keyboard setup for on the go with a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9? I own an Apple keyboard folio, but the mushy keys, limited stand positions and lack of backlighting (unfortunate given it could have been designed to siphon power from the iPad directly). Add in a bad keyboard material and a wobbly, top heavy unit and there just are too many problems for me to be satisfied. I can’t stress enough how bad the key travel and lack of backlighting amount to make this thing an overpriced flap. 

 

I’m hoping to buy a few things to get a setup that makes this thing the steady working device I think it could actually be.

 

That said, baring Apple releasing a new, much better Pro Folio in the fall with new iPad Pros (such that the new folio keyboard would be compatible with the 2018 iPad Pro) I have not currently found any good options. After Apple there are three major offerings from other accessory makers. I tried Logitech’s slim folio pro but alas, the one stand position it offers is no good especially on the lap and the backlight timeout is super, mega, ultra, hyper aggressive, shutting off after about 5 seconds without use. Useless. The Zagg keyboard gets bad reviews from both Youtube videos and Amazon reviews and the Brydge keyboard seems poor quality and half baked.

 

With all that said, I’m looking to solutions like cases for the Apple Magic Keyboard, especially the one sold by Finite, that turn into a stand for the iPad when unfolded. This also seems less than ideal as its origami like pose still probably wouldn’t work great in the lap and my backlight-less blues still wouldn’t be resolved as the Magic keyboard doesn’t feature that (thanks again Apple), although perhaps black lettering on white keys would be more visible in dim or dark settings, where I frequently find myself.

 

Your suggestions would be really appreciated. If I can find something maybe I can become a grungy, groveling hipster who doesn’t know what a computer is.
