Raid Loss (100€+ Bounty)

Aljo

Hey guys

The data is VERY valuable to my grandma and if anyone knows how to fix this and saves us the recovery company i would be very willing to send 100+ euros as a reward.

(to be clear, i cant guarantee this 100% yet but im 99% positive that i will get that managed youll have to trust me on that as we are definetly willing to spend alot on getting the data back)

--First the full story-- (the main problem marked orange)

Recently my grandas pc stopped working, it said "Reboot and select propper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". At first I just thought it would just be a broken Windows. I booted a windows stick and went into the troubleshooting options. There I took a look in the console to check the system. I couldnt achieve anything there so i tried a rapair install of windows. This however ended up loading for many hours so i turned the pc off. The next day I tried to clean install windowson the ssd. There i had problems when i wanted to format the ssd and set up a new volume to install windows. It said something like that the drive was locked i believe. after retrying i managed to format it and set up a new volume. windows still wouldnt install, i fixed that by disconnecting the hdds (I labeled them before). in windows i did all possible updates. thend i reconnected the hdds and went into the disk management and there the drives didnt show up as one 8tb raid drive but rahter as 2 drives with 4tb and a ton of partitions and 2 8tb drives. I went into the bios and checked for the drives and they all showed up as 4tb drives as it should be. When i checked the setting it was set to ahci and not raid. I switched to raid mode. However when I went into the raid settings all the drives showed up but only 2 were markes as raid drives, specifically as drive 0. the othere two were marked as not a part of the raid. I tried switching connections up and trying out other sata ports but nothing helped. When i booted into windows again the pc instantly bluescreened as windows was about done booting. Ihavent fixed this yet because at this point I am worried to damage the data more. Stupidly we never backed the data up and it means everything to my grandma. I will likely give the drives to a data recovery company but if anyone has any good idea as to whats going on or how i could fix it i would be very grateful. I will not try anything tho that could worsten the situation or risk the data.

Did you make an image, if no make a block level image of all the drives now.

How is the health of the drives? Any errors in smart on any of them?

You have to see if you ruined the headers on the drives or if the motherboard is weird.

Try some raid recovery programs, like the ReclaiMe software. But do this on the images, not on the disks. Don't touch those disks.

If this is really that importand, send it to a recovery service and forget what we say here. They know alot more about this than we do and have much better tools.
