yeah well, such is life. I'll wait and instead of spending Saturday playing gears, i'll hang out with my GF  :P

Even MS keeps an eye on my social life, it seems?

Inb4 her dad works for Microsoft and they nerfed your install so you'd hang out more ?

When did you get it, and what drivers are you using.  The AMD drivers came out for support for Gears 5 and performance and some bugs in other things.  Which nVidia driver are you using ?  The latest one ?  You might have to do a ddu "display driver uninstaller" in safe mode if possible and clean and restart and install the latest nVidia WHQL drivers and let us know.  Perhaps nVidia with their latest driver release probably did optimizations for Gears 5 and what not.

There's nothing AMD in his rig? DDUing drivers isn't something you have to do right away until you've got more information on what's actually the issue, games sometimes have funky bugs. In Assassin's Creed Odyssey if I enable MSAA it looks like I'm using a slice of potato as glasses, extremely fuzzy/foggy looking graphics. No amount of DDU clean installs will fix that, you have to disable MSAA in the Nvidia control panel or in game. DDU comes later after you've weeded out other issues.

OP, what resolution are you pushing with that setup? Have you tried messing with anything other than presets, maybe taking a look in Nvidia control panel and making sure there's not a funky resolution/fps lock? I feel like I've had issues like this before but I can't for the life of me remember what I did to fix it.

Also what API is it using? Newer games can often run in DX11 or DX12, but DX12 is usually a shit implementation and runs worse than DX11.

using 1080p, no DSR no nothing.

Tried setting all to low, disabling enabling vsync, disabling/enabling min and max fps in game.

i mixed with settings a bit. But in game setting have no impact whatsoever.

In the nv panel i switched all to defaults. no change.

There is no API switch in game as far as i can see.

Changed resolution to 2k, no change at all. Changed to 800x600. Same story

Then slow down, type a single comma instead of two of them with weird spacing between, read through your own post and make sure it's (to the best of your knowledge) correct. My dad is 49 and he's still able to type perfectly, using proper punctuation and everything. If you know you're making mistakes then take steps to fix those, don't use your age as an excuse unless you actually have a physical or mental disability that makes it difficult for you to communicate clearly (then people can be more understanding, but you do need to know your own limitations as well).

The game just came out today? It seems to be launch day bugs, I'm seeing some people on forums saying it runs smooth as butter, others with rigs ranging from an R5 2600X/1660 Ti on up to a 9900K/2080 are getting horrible stuttering and fps.

This article mentions the performance issues and has some suggested fixes, mostly to do with windows updates, the Xbox app itself, and some other stuff causing problems with the game: https://frondtech.com/gears-of-war-5-performance-guide-fix-lag-fps-drops-crashing-and-freezing/

The UT Engine is solid as you can see in Fortnite.  They are usually opimitzed out of the box, but for some reason it is not like something about your system and its software related pretty much.  DDU has helped a lot of people, but when you come back to install drivers it won't be out, but as far as Gears5 and probably their already optimized for it.  I think your going to have to wait for a driver release from nVidia and youll be set.  Adrenaline gave it up to 12 percent speed boost plus they cover bugs.  I haven't a idea if their set with Gears or they need a new driver like AMD did.  Don't give up, but I still think without the latest drivers you might be in trouble.  Game should fly I hope DDU fixes it for you.

it's totally not a problem with "speed". it's like i have some bottleneck in my system that delays my PC's graphical  subsystem by a 1000% for a sec.

Nothing is overheating or anything like this, my psu is sufficient and like i said it's the first time i have such problems.

Can you read?

Do you bother to learn anything?

Engine being good =/= game being good. Unreal Engine is good because Fortnite runs well? Ever heard of PUBG? That's on Unreal Engine as well and is legendary for terrible performance. Please stop spouting garbage and then complaining you being in you early 40s makes being intentionally uninformed (basically stupid, you're choosing to not register any of the knowledge people dump on you, and you're gonna hurt other people with that by giving them bad advice) okay. It's not, you're spreading misinformation, knowingly, and that's bad.

"Optimized out of the box" No. Games are known to be incredibly buggy and unpredictable at launch. The devs can only test it on so many rigs, the massive amount of hardware combos makes it impossible to optimize for all of those. There's a bunch more game dev reasons that things run well or don't but going into those here would take to long and you're unlikely to read this anyways.

Adrenaline drivers have nothing to do with Nvidia ones, lmao.

^ It's definitely a bug, if they have somewhere to report that then do so as soon as possible. Your rig is fine in everything else so other than trying the fixes in that article there's not much you can do other than mess with every single setting and option it gives you one by one to see what's wack. I'd just follow all the steps in the article, if that doesn't work then report the bug and head over to the forums and put a thread under the support/bug section (I assume they have one) with your full specs, windows version, and driver version. Best way to see if they notice or if someone else with a similar rig finds a fix that works.

It hurts to see people being fed bad information and is incredibly aggravating to constantly come across the same person who for some reason never changes their behavior no matter how many times they themselves admit they are wrong. You can go to his page, look at recent posts, and see most of it is jumbled confusion.

I also have a penchant for text walls when trying to stress a point, lol. Doesn't really matter because Turtle never reads them though.

It seems particles  bottle-necking my rig badly. Feels like i've traveled back in time to some 2003 and using my old fx5200 64bit :D

Huh, maybe it's similar to the issues with Anthem at launch (not gameplay/game quality issues, those are well established and explained, actual performance ones). Performance all over the place, one YouTuber I watch was pegging all 18 cores and 36 threads on his i9 7980XE at 100% and getting really iffy fps, it ran wack for me too but I had a much lower spec. They fixed it in later patches, never gave an explanation as to what the bug was or why it acted that way though.

no, it's different  -  game uses ~10% of my cpu ). And of course i cannot change priority of the process, nor affinity. Access denied ?‍♂️

It seriously feels like GPU bus is to narrow (like 64bits ones, that were  struggling with  particles/dust/smoke   and whatnot), but i know that's not true.

Anyway Thanks for all of your help -  i guess i'll wait for support to pick up. Or for a patch . ?‍♂️

Oh.... well that could be a slight issue, lol. And I assume it's like Forza Horizon 3 and 4, a more closed off Xbox port? When they run nice they run well, but I don't like them because they're way more locked down and unpredictable than the usual PC title.

I feel your pain. I played the beta several weeks ago, and I had great performance, 90-100+.  I have a 1080 founders edition, i7 6700k and 16gb of RAM. I start up the game this time, and it's like walking through molasses. The frame rate is abysmal, ranging from 30-60, but the weird thing like you said, it's like I'm being bottlenecked. It slows to a crawl like every second and it's like it's in slow motion. I've run cpu diagnostics thinking that my cpu was failing, nope, gpu benchmarks, nope. I even tried my fiance's 1070, same issue. I've not had any noticable issues before this and I'm rather irritated, especially since there seems to be plenty others not having this problem.

I wanted to post an update to this in case OP wants to try. I uninstalled all of my Nvidia drivers to try the game without it, and it's working like a charm. It's not buttery smooth, but my frame rates are back to where they should be. There must be an issue with the current drivers with this game.
