I am thinking of building a hackintosh workstation notebook as a portable companion to my PC. What I'm wondering is, can you even build laptops? I know that you can modify and swap out parts in many of them, but can I build it from scratch like I did with my desktop? If so, could somebody point me out to a helpful guide for doing so. I'm pretty savvy with desktops but with laptops I know nothing.

Build a laptop? I doubt it. You can use sites that do custom ones for you. Like in the UK we have PC specialist and can config a laptop to our specific need.

Damn, so a DIY notebook isn't even an option? Is there any way I can get a "barebones" kind of deal and then just modify it to my hearts content?

You can, but I would strongly recommend against it. There are plenty of good pre-built notebooks. Tonymacx86 might be able to help you if you want a hackintosh notebook.

Okay, could you direct me to where I could find these pre-builts? Also, out of curiosity, why do you recommend against a DIY?

They aren't really worth the work and money you put into it, plus a laptop is more prone to damage so it's nice to have a better warranty.

Spoiler
