Sound cards

Go to solution Solved by Bananasplit_00,

A sound card provides a way for your computer to output sound. You have one built in to your motherboard or you can get discrete ones that use either an expansion slot or a USB port. They tend to provide more features and tuning than the one built-in to the motherboard along with improved quality. You don't need a discrete card generally as the sound from the motherboard is usually pretty good these days

What is a sound card?

What does it do?

What are its benefits?

Is it necessary for a pc build?

What is their interface?

What's the difference between the audio interface on my motherboard and a sound card?

PC: Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB 3200mhz RAM (8GBx2), Gigabyte B550M DS3H, GTX 1050 2GB, 650W Semi-Modular PSU80+ Gold

Phone: Poco F3 8GB + 256GB

Audio: Samson SR850s

Sound Card: SoundBlaster Play 4 USB sound card

IEM: planning to get the KBEAR KS2s
Please be patient with me, I'm fatally dumb and its honestly a miracle I've made it this far

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

"Here is some advice that might have gotten lost somewhere along the way in your life.

#1. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.
