Hi, I did some cable managing and sorting and I moved my modem a little. After rebooting everything my speeds were down to 10-15 mbit/s being also very inconsistent. Ping was still perfect. (I usually have 200mbit/s down)

I had this issue before, where I tried rebooting everything in the perfect order and also swapping cables etc. I always thought this issue is caused by the lan cable from the modem to the router not fitting perfectly, it did not make this perfect "click" sound and seemed a bit loose.  But I researched today and I learned that coax cables are very sensitive about well a perfect connection.

So is my sudden loss of speed caused by a not perfectly tight screwed in coax cable?

I am also sure this is not caused by my provider or other 3rd partys

Thanks,

Martin

Yes you need to make sure coax connections are tight. If broadcast tv or cellular data signals get in to the cable system then you can have issues like you do.

Generally interference on the cable network can caused by bad connections or bad wiring. Checking your modems signal levels would be the best way to see if it’s an issue like I’m describing. Go to 192.168.100.1 to check them. If you have a lot of uncorrectable errors then you have an issue.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
