I just made a new computer and ive been struggling for 2 days to install windows 10 with a usb. The first time I tried to install windows 10 I was using an old version of the BIOS that it had on it default. I tried to install and it gave me this error message. I updated the BIOS thinking it would fix the problem and I can still properly go into the BIOS and stuff like I first could but now when I try to boot into my usb with win 10 on it it shows the windows logo and right under that it shows a dotted loading circle and never shows windows setup. After 10 seconds of the logo and loading circle it goes black. Ive waited for an hour and 30 minutes. What should I do now? Should I go back to the default version of the BIOS? should I wait longer at the black screen? The mobo I have is gigabyte B450 DS3H. The default version was f4 but then I updated from f4 to f32 to f40 (I had to go to f32 first because gigabyte said to go to f40 you gotta have f32 first). I also tried other solutions when I was on version f4 like copying the usb to a drive or something like that using the command prompt but the command prompt was being weird.

Sounds like the USB is at fault

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

its a usb 3.0, should I try and get a 2.0??

I would just say to reinstall the media creation tool, USB 3.0 vs 2.0 isn't a factor

Unplug all your other hard drives except for the one you want Windows on

Go into bios and set CSM to Disabled

Boot the USB up to the Welcome screen

Press Shift +F12

Type "Diskpart" then hit enter

Type "Select Disk 0" then hit enter

Type "Clean" then hit enter

Type "Convert MBR" then hit enter

Type "Exit" then hit enter

Close the command prompt

Carry on with Setup as normal

That should allow you to partition the drive properly. Once Windows is installed shut down and reconnect any other hard drives.

my ram is all good and my hard drive is new so im not sure what to do. anything else I can check?

Even a brand new drive can be DoA, so if you haven't scanned it using SeaTools, WD LifeGuard Diagnostics, or SmartCTL on any Linux distro, I advise doing this to verify that the HDD you're using is indeed actually healthy and not defective.

So how did you get the screenshot showing an error creating partition?

How long ago did you create the USB drive? What did you use to create it? Just to rule it out try and create it again using Microsofts Media Creation Tool.

You'd use another working computer to load up one of the aforementioned tools on a USB stick, then boot from it and run the HDD checks. Alternatively, you can also connect the HDD in question to a working computer and check things like HD Tune or Crystal Disk info.

I think there are too many options to try.

But if none of those work, taking the PC to a service is going to solve it!

Well, what can you do?

It’s hard to help someone through messages, without being there, when things get complicated.

Other participants will try their best to help, but if nothing works...

Servicing the PC is the last option.
