Bent MoBo Pin causing restriction

Go to solution Solved by Flyguygamer,

Not sure yet, I just know that it is up and running so far. If I get any more crashes or BSOD i'll lower my clock speed,

Okay. Glad everything worked out.

Not really a question but when I was installing the CPU I accidentally bent a MoBo pin (which I later used a needle to straighten), so I just tried to over clock my 4670K to 4.2Ghz using the settings

in this video:

and ended up getting a BSOD :/

It's entirely possible that those setting aren't stable for your CPU.

I doubt the bent pin is the issue.

I don't think that would cause it

I think it's one of those either-works-or-it-doesn't kind of things

Shouldn't 4.2 GHz be capable by almost every 4670K?

Some are just bad chips. I bet there is an issue somewhere else. Do you have the latest BIOS? What voltage and clock speed are you using?

Not sure if i'm using latest bios, i'm scared i'll break my computer lol. I was using 4.2 Ghz on all cores running 1.2 volts

*EDIT* just checked the updates from the BIOS and it shows that all the new update increase system stability.

You might just have a bad chip. If you are afraid of a bios flash then it is best not to do it. What bios are you using.

All chips are different. Some can overclock a lot just fine, others can't handle more than 200MHz.

To find the version open the search function in windows 8 or start menu in windows 7 and type "msinfo32"  Now tell me what the "BIOS version/date" is.

I did watch the video and right now i'm not sure which name to rename my bios

Rename the file as below table, and then save it to the USB storage device’s root directory.

  • Model name
  • P9X79 DELUXE
  • P9X79 PRO
  • P9X79
  • SABERTOOTH X79
  • Rampage IV Extreme
  • Rampage IV Formula
  • Rampage IV GENE
  • P9X79WS
  • Rename the file
  • P9X79D.CAP
  • P9X79PRO.CAP
  • P9X79.CAP
  • SABERX79.CAP
  • R4E.CAP
  • R4F.CAP
  • R4G.CAP
  • P9X79WS.CAP

Am I Extreme, Formula or Gene?
