So I was doing some housekeeping on my computer as the new college semester is starting, and I noticed a notification that Windows auto update failed. Naturally I figured it wasn't a big issue and proceeded to try to update manually, only for the computer to tell me it can't run windows 10, and that it needs a BIOS update. The thing is, I had just checked a few minutes before for bios and driver updates, and everything was good to go. So as tech savvy as I am, I'm stumped. The update page in settings says the version of Windows I run is nearing the end of support, and names some install error code (0x8007001f if that means anything to any of you. The computer in question is a 2018 HP Spectre x360 15". Please let me know if you think this is an issue on my end, or if it's the fault of HP or Windows? Thanks in advance for the help!

Gave it a go, but it yielded the same result as doing it through the settings menu - its telling me I need a BIOS update that doesn't exist.

Shucks sorry about that, something fishy is going on.  So Im assuming you have 1809 build right now or do you have a 1903 build ?

I have the 1809 build. According to the HP forums, everyone with this laptop has the exact same issue. HP simply hasn't updated the Bios to support the update yet, which is very annoying coming from such a major company. Its been over three months. This could lead to serious security issues down the line if not resolved soon. I don't think bios update is really necessary for upgrade if you're running 1809. Probably updater detect something unusual and prevent starting upgrade process. You can plug drive to another computer, boot and upgrade (after new drivers installation), then plug updated system to your laptop. I recommend made image of your current system if something goes wrong.

If you're not good in computer stuff, just wait a little longer for upgrade - maybe manufacturer release updated bios or give you some workaround (ask them for help).

I'd recommend not trying to force the update. If you do, it'll most likely end in tears and BSODs.

You can however try to update the Intel storage drivers. This may or may not solve your problems, but it's one of the known issues that blocks the update so at the very least you could deal with that in a pre-emptive fashion.
