So im trying to update my BIOS, i downloaded the file required to do so. However i accidentally opened it in notepad and now its a notepad file. I wondering if i can revert it back to how it was before. I've downloaded the file again but its the same.

What you did was just make the notepad the default application for opening your file.  If you check the file extension of your file File Explorer>View>Show File Extensions it will not be .txt but it will be a special BIOS updater file extension (don’t know the extension for that file).  To make notepad not the default app for opening the file, click the file once, click the Open Drop Down menu (in the Home section of File Explorer, and uncheck “Always use this app to open .(extension) Files”.  I could send screenshots of what to do if you find my explanation hard to understand.

O.....K.... turns out my previous explanation was a pile of shit.  There is no way to do that from File Explorer.  Because your file was unopenable in any app in the past, now you can't revert it back to how it used to be.  The only way that I know it can be reverted is by going to Settings>Apps>Default Apps>Reset to the Microsoft Recommended Defaults.

Of course doing this will mean you will use your new default settings such as if you changed a default browser.

Sorry for my erroneous explanation before but this way will surely solve your problem---this time I tested.
