Hi!

My aunt has asked my to find her a new laptop since hers is 9 years old.

She uses it for general purpose: browsing, youtube, word office, scrolling trough her images.

She prefers a 15" with a number pad. However, the 15" restriction is more important than the number pad.

Weight is not the biggest concerns because she almost only uses it at home. (Still wants a laptop because she wants to be able to sit downstairs, upstairs, sofa, kitchen table,...)

Lastly, her budget is about €700.

Anybody any good tips?

Thanks in advance!

Thinkpad because literally the only reason not to get a Thinkpad is if you need a Macbook or need a gaming laptop.

Not sure exactly what model but probably a T-series (though I would really recommend she looks at the 14" X1 as well).

Quote me to see my reply!

The Swift series is pretty mediocre. Not worth the asking price considering how many corners are cut.

Tell me what corners have been cut please. I was thinking of purchasing one after some recommendations of @GeneXiS_X. I was looking for similar budget but having a long battery life as important. Just checked it out myself in the store and for the price it felt solid and types beautiful

Its nothing special. The components have strict power limits and throttle heavily. Battery life is average. Build quality is not great on an electrical level. The screen is a mediocre panel for the price. Not to mention Acers shoddy QC. A Business Laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad, Dell Latitude or HP EliteBook) would be far superior in every way possible.

The model i looked at today had a full HD 1080P IPS panel and ilthe quality was quite decent. Also  had a 12H battery life? So not sure on average there

Edit: ill have a look at your mentioned models too (my use case is for uni, so want light, long battery life etc

The screen being ips sadly doesn't mean anything these days. Color space coverage, delta e values, contrast and brightness are nothing special. As for battery life, you can expect 7 hours at most. That 12 hour figure is taken at 0% brightness idling on a desktop. It's not real in any way shape or form.

Well SF314-54/56 actually has decent cooling. Battery life is good too. Build quality is decent at its price range. You can't expect good display for the price. Consumer grade QC is about the same for all brands

Cause the CPU drops to 1.2Ghz under mixed load. GPu drops to 1GHz, - it's severely power limited. The only reason the cooling can keep up

I mean, many models also does that - moreover it can handle 25w MX150/MX250 (with minor throtling)

It can? It's a 1D12 MX150 and 1D52 MX250 - both 10W limited models. At least according to NBC and UltraBookReviews.
