Task manager showing incorrect CPU usage.

Go to solution Solved by Windows7ge,

Quite frankly if it's really a bug that's integrated into Task Manager then the answer is you most likely can't and just have to wait for the next update to role out.

As far as fixing it yourself about the only options I have that may not even make a difference would be to reinstall Windows.

Outside of this about your only other option is to just use another application for your activity reporting.

It's always possible you may have downloaded something fishy or there's just a rouge process going in the background that Task Managers reporting. Sometimes restarting the computer can fix this.

Hey everyone,

Over the past few months i have noticed the task manager is saying that my CPU is at 90 or 100 usage, when in reality its not even 70. I have double checked this with CPUID HWMonitor, using the logitech gaming software hardware info thing on my keyboard and using Afterburner. I have found out during writing this also that Recourse monitor is showing the same as task manager so i assume windows isn't seeing the correct usage. Im pretty sure this started after i updated to 1903. How can this be fixed? Thanks in advance

Win 10 Pro 64 Bit

Have you tried the Sysinternals Process Explorer tool at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

It can replace the task manager in Windows (any version) and can usually provide a heap more information if you really want to get deep into windows internals...

If this gives you the same result, then I would think you may have found a new bug (i'm not using  windows 10 so I can't relate to your situation very easily) ...

Thanks for that link, That is now showing very closely alongside HWmonitor however is still around 10% higher.

As said above, I assume you are correct here with a rouge process, although this has been doing this for a while and restarts don't do anything. Ive had this copy of windows for a while and upgraded from 8.1 so there is *lots* of stuff on here. I should probably do a clean install but i don't feel like reinstalling my steam libary with my crappy internet.

Thanks for the help, i just won't use task manager and assume its wrong till i get round to doing a clean install of windows.

You can copy your steam games off your computer then put them back when you're done reinstalling. It's a fairly common thing that steam users do to save them to trouble of redownloading.
