New build need help please...

Stilg7

Ok, so I'm building a new pc and I need help picking out my PSU and HFS.

CPU- i5-9600k ($200)

Mobo- Gigabyte Z390I Aorus Pro ($135, combo deal from local microcenter)

RAM- G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8 GB DDR4-3200 ($78)

GPU- Asus ROG Strix GTX 1070Ti (got this for a really good price, just under $300)

SSD- Samsung 970 EVO 500GB ($80)

Case- BitFenix Phenom ($90)

(Monitor- Dell S2716DGR)

This PC will be primarily for gaming and the game I'll be playing the most will be classic WoW. As you can see I'm kinda going for a budget 1440p 144hz build. My Goal is to average greater than 120fps (or close) on ultra to high settings, again playing classic wow. With that in mind, I've used some PSU calculators and my estimated wattage comes out around *450w. Most sites suggest a 650w PSU for my build but I feel a 550w might suffice. I'm leaning toward a 550w Seasonic Focus Plus gold for $60 (after rebate on newegg). Lastly, do CPUs need HSFs if you only plan to do minor to no OCing? If it's best to have one anyways, then what would be recommended? I'm leaning toward Noctua or Scythe HSFs but I'm all for suggestions. TIA!

why get the 9600k? why not ryzen 3600?

550w is plenty

if you arent doing much oc, then something like hyper212 is good enough (i think).

keep in mind that the 9600k does not have a stock cooler. the ryzen 3600 does (which is good for minor/no oc).

unless the 9600k is cheaper with the cooler than a 3600, buy the 3600. you will find that its basically identical for gaming.

i5 9600k's cooler not include, you must buy it separate.

suggest cyorig h5 ultimate

550w is good if not planting above 5 hdd 3,5 +  5 casing fan.

Since I'm paying $200 for the 9600k, it's the same price as the 3600. From what I've read, the 9600k is just a better CPU for gaming. Also, from what I've read, the stock coolers on the AMDs are no bueno. Side note, all of my information is from hours of internet research. Rather than hands on or from personal experience lol

Stock for stock the 9600k and the R5 3600 are basically on par in gaming performance. The 9600k is only really better for gaming when overclocked and in any task that takes advantage of multi threaded performance the 3600 smokes the 9600k. Just my 2c.

After looking into it I can get a 3600 for $160 and a Gigabyte B450I Aorus Pro for $70 (after local pickup combo deal). Would the $105 savings justify the change from Intel to AMD? Also, with that said, would I be ok with keeping my GTX 1070Ti and G-sync monitor? Or, would it be better to get an AMD card and a FreeSync monitor? The GPU I would lean toward is probably the 5700xt. Does the 5700xt only come in blower format?

2k monitor gsync = good

1080p monitor 144hz freesync = great

yes. they're on par in gaming, but SMT on the 3600 helps it perform better everywhere else and helps it last longer. you can use freesync with the 1070ti so grab a cheaper freesync monitor. if you're gonna get the 5700XT then wait for the pulse and evoke to be in stock if possible.

If you are going to save that much definitely (you will need a bios update for a 3600 on a b450 board). As for gpu wise the 1070ti is still a good card and going to the 5700xt will get you better performance but is of course going to cost more. Really it depends on the res that you plan on playing at. The 5700xt is currently only available in reference trim (blower style) but aib cards should be available soon.

My plan is to use the 1070Ti until the newer 5700 XTs come out. When I get the new GPU I plan to purchase an HSF, upgrade from the stock 3600 stealth, to help get more out of my XT. Does this make the most sense for 1440p and averaging greater than 120 fps in classic WoW? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

wait what? why?

if you are going to upgrade to a newer 5700xt, just wait for that. why spend 300 for the 1070ti and then spend money on the new gpu again?
