Greetings from the Philippines!

Here's my rig:

MSI Z97 gaming 5

i7 4790

MSI GTX 1060 6gb

16GB 1866 RAM

I have at least a P25,000 pesos (give or take $500) budget to upgrade my rig. Now the question is, what upgrade will give me a better gaming experience (more FPS) outright, a cpu or a gpu upgrade?

Now with the budget that I have, I'm looking at either a ryzen 2700 + a good amd motherboard + 8gb or 16gb of RAM.

OR

An MSI rtx 2060 or 2060 super ventus OC. Or something along those lines in case said gpu is not in stock here in my area.

EDIT: Note that whatever I upgrade first, I will then deal with the other parts in the near future.

My main goal is to play rainbow six siege in a competitive setting, so that means none of the eye candy stuff, just a couple of settings cranked up so I can see the character models better, some FXAA, and thats it. And 144fps stable is a must.
I would also like to stream some of my games at a decent quality when I'm not practicing with my team.

I would like to note that I don't care much for all the extra bells and whistles like RGB, extra motherboard features, even ray tracing, I just like the new RTX cause of the new NVENC that I can utilize with it. Just a simple upgrade that can achieve the above stated objective without overspending would be great.

TLDR: CPU or GPU upgrade for COMPETITIVE RAINBOW SIX SIEGE 144HZ + STREAMING.

cpu and gpu have to be good, for better FPS. in a game like APB< its more CPU heavy. but in most games, its more GPU heavy. i have not checked the exact speed of your cpu, but id assume its a good speed. as for the 1060, its a solid gpu and should get you good FPS as is. if your looking to build a new computer, 500$ is not enough. if you wanted to upgrade, grab a 2070. that would boost your FPS a lot.

I'm aware that $500 is not enough for an entire rig, hence the question of what to upgrade FIRST based on my objective. I mean if a cpu upgrade is what would give me a bigger boost in fps, then i'll go with that, if a gpu upgrade will do the job, then the same applies. Thing is with rainbow six siege I'm not quite sure if it is a gpu or cpu heavy game. It's kind of a weird game to be honest at least for me.

Yeah go for the best GPU that you can buy and then in the bios set it where the performance enhancer is on and it should lock all your cores to the turbo max(only do this with a aftermarket cooler)

I see. Do you think a 2060 will do the job or should I go with the SUPER variant? 2070 is not really an option for me because of the price. :)

As i and others have said, Upgrade your GPU. i would say a 2070 would be a big upgrade if you can afford it, as you seem to not be happy with your 1060.

I see. It's not that I'm not happy with my 1060, or even the whole rig for that matter. It's just that its not getting the job done in Rainbow Six Siege. And I would like to try and start streaming from here on out.

Thanks for  your advice my man.

Streaming is more based on your CPU. but you should be fine there. go with a 2060 :)

2060 sounds good doesnt need the Super Version to go 144hz unless you play at max setting tho.  and if you were only speaking about Gaming. then go for GPU first.

for the upcoming Cpu i suggest to go 3600 or 2700. you can pick the mobo from B450 (cheapest and dcent build) x470 , to high end x570. and 8 gigs is more than enough for gaming since its only use around 6GB

  Spec: Macbook Air 2017

ProcessorPU: ii5 (I5-5350U |

| RAM: 8GB LPDDR3 |

| Storage: 128GB SSD

 | GPU: Intel HD 6000 |

| Audio: JBL 450BT Wireless Headset |

Yeah like I said in the post, this upgrade is meant PURELY FOR RAINBOW SIX SIEGE WHILE STREAMING AT A DECENT QUALITY.

Again i'd go for the best since money is a issue perhaps even look at Amd take a look down below for the performance upgrades from a 2060 super vs 1060

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-2060-super/27.html

Around 44% faster at 1080P

People telling you to upgrade your CPU are wrong you can do that later again just turn performance enhancer on in the bios and you should have a 4C/8T 4Ghz CPU from Intel off of Haswell(better then Ryzen 1000 IPC).

However down the line you will probably want more cores and threads

It's weird with me i like to upgrade my CPU all the time as i find faster CPU's to mean smoother gameplay and i own a 1080GTX so i just turn the graphics down a little if i'm not happy with the frame rate.

I refuse to upgrade my GPU until something is 500$ and its twice as fast as my 1080

I see what you mean. Thing is though, I'm doing some Rainbow Six Siege stream right now as I type this, and my CPU usage is spiking all the way up to high 90s% even 99% usage while my GPU is ok at 80ish %. I was about to even order a 2060 super but then this happens. I guess this is just bad game optimization from R6 but still, made my decision a bit harder now. :(

Well if you are streaming i would have to recommend a R5 or R7 from Amd.

I thought you where just gaming. Most games now a days easily use 4 cores pretty heavily and streaming needs a good 2 cores i would recommend getting a 3600 or even a older 2700 you need the cores.

Yeah TLDR is r6 + streaming. I guess I would need to upgrade the whole thing now. I'll just decide which one to upgrade first.
