Hello Forum!

OK straight to the point, running an overclocked AMD FX 8350 which fine did me fine, except if I try and do loads at once, say play doom, do some updates (multiple software products) and browse at the same time, then I hit high CPU temps and crash out. So rather than de-clocking etc etc, I think I'll bring my upgrade plan forward.

My question is (and I think I seen a video on this, so link if there is?), I don't want to reinstall everything, I have a TON of audio production software (VST's for those in the know) and it will take FOREVER!

So with Windows 10, can I now change out my mobo, CPU and RAM without having to go through this pain, and if so how???!!

I'll keep all my other hardware just now, and upgrade them when I feels it's time.....

Thanks!

If you linked your microsoft account to your PC then yes, Windows will detect the new stuff and install basic drivers for it all. If you have an OEM key then you might get lucky and if you call get a phone rep who will reactivate it for you but it's not a guarantee. Sometimes OEM keys purchased from reseller sites might transfer but that's far from guaranteed either.

It's linked, I upgraded from windows 7 home during the free time frame, then upgraded again to windows 10 pro.

So what's the process? Am I likely to run into any issues or do I just swap everything out, plug in my SSD with the OS and it and boom, windows gets rid of my old drivers and hits me with the new drivers just like that? Or am I gonna get a ton a compatibility issues??

When I upgraded my system a while back from X99 to X299 I just swapped it all, powered it up, and Windows detected the changes and installed new drivers for everything it could and if I remember right it even removed the old drivers and cleaned up. If you want to be safe just keep a copy of the drivers from the motherboard website on a USB stick or something just in case something isn't detected properly.
