CS : GO - WTF?

Guest

Playing CS:GO on decent hardware with a good connection and most of the time all is good. As usual I get my ass kicked fair and square. Sometimes however of late there has been the odd player that seems totally invisible until the still showing who killed me. It happened throughout a game yesterday on deathmatch. It was the same player every time, always sitting in the same spot with a sniper rifle. However I approached I could not see this player until after I was shot, but the screen shot clearly showed them in the open.

Is my hardware just not keeping up? Is this person using some sort of loophole?

Specify what kind of hardware is that, so people can help you better. Also, that happens to many people that are just not great players.

I'm not a great player by any means. Like most things in life, I am average at it. I tried watching the spot and moving towards it slowly, then got shot and the replay showed this player in exactly the spot. Same happened with a different player in DUST II. Whatever angle I approached from I got nailed by a seemingly invisible player. Maybe I am just inept, or maybe I have something in my setup that is not refreshing fast enough to see the bugger. Should I lower the settings from max everything for example?

Hardware - Ryzen 2700, Auorus X470 Gaming, 16gb*2 Corsair 3200 DDR4, Gigabyte RTX2060, 120mhz gsync monitor. My broadband is hitting the 280Mbps mark. Hopefully that should be fast enough.

I can't tell if you're referring to if you're unable to see the player before you get killed, or if your GPU isn't rendering the character until the deathcam.

Could it be your ping perhaps? Sometimes it happens when players shoulder-peek as the engine favors client-side, so the times you mention the player kills you when you can't see them, it's sometimes just dumb luck for them.

Thanks for the video. I will watch that when I get home as I forgot to grab my headphones. Bit rude making too much noise in the office.

I actually found a more recent video by the same YouTuber who discussed the scenario you're experiencing.

In this video, he talks about the mechanics of peeking, and how to deal with AWPers, and what sort of perspectives are involved. It's also recent so it will be up to date with modern CS:GO.

I probably am just getting my butt kicked. Always useful however to know how and why.
