When your doing a memtest on a computer with an integrated video card. I have seen on some systems the iGPU will suck away a portion of your ram to be used for the GPU. When this happens does memtest still have physical access to all of the physical ram sectors? Or would some sectors to hidden from memtest because of the iGPU is using a small portion?

Very interesting question. I've never thought of that actually. You're right, technically a portion would be "hardware reserved" so allowing MemTest to write to that would be a disaster if it was allowed to.

Me either, I got to thinking about it when I was trying to figure out the best solution to this post

I was going to suggest they run a memtest to make sure it wasn't the ram screwing up the video. But I didn't know if that would work because memtest may not be able to access that portion of the ram.

I would imagine that would most likely result in a segmentation fault should MemTest try to write to memory hardware reserved memory. That being said, I'm sure MemTest and OEMs who have onboard memory diagnostic tools like HP account for that. A majority of computers in the world don't have a discrete GPU with it's own memory.
