ram issue

Hi my ram is rated for 2666 mhz but when i change it to that frequency the compter crashes/ hangs up after going past login screen.

These are my computer specs
motherboard: gigabyte b360 hd3
cpu: i7 8700
gpu: evga gtx 1070 dual fan
drive:1 x sandisk ssd 4x 8 years old hdd
Ram:corsair vengence rgb 2666 mhz 16 gb (2x8gb)

power supply: cooler master 550W


could the issue be that I need a bigger power supply.

Power supply is most likely fine unless its a dud, I think the issue lies with the fact that you are using XMP. XMP doesn't always work correctly, so try just setting the frequencies manually to the correct speed and leave all other settings default.

the bios wont let me chang frecuency other then via XMP
