Hi Guys,

I have a system here that I was trying to upgrade. Its a Xeon E3 1240 V5 in an Asus E3 Pro Gaming V5 Motherboard. It runs fine with the SK Hynix 8GB Stick that it came with, but wont post at all with 16GB Sticks that i managed to get my hands on (I have 4 of them). I took a look online, and it seems that the board and chip should support it:

I've gone down the usual troubleshooting steps of trying one stick at a time (I've tried all 4 individually) and trying different slots to be sure. I've also flashed to the latest bios, but still no luck.

After that I've got the 8GB stick in and it boots into windows perfectly fine as it did before.

I took a photo of one of the 16GB Sticks (all 4 are identical) next to the 8GB One so you can see what I'm dealing with.

Any help would be appreciated guys.

The 16 GB stick at the bottom is REGISTERED DDR4 (it's obvious by the bigger chip near the cut in the slot) ... the board only supports unregistered (un-buffered)  ecc/non-ecc ram.

Dammit, you're right - I don't know why i thought these were un-buffered - I did google them before hand, but I had been looking at multiple different sticks and must have mistaken them. (I also wasn't aware of the extra IC being a way to distinguish them  Thanks)

Well, I guess I have some Ram for sale haha

Thanks for your help
