Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to computers. I don't know much about technical terms but I can follow steps if they are explained elaborately. I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 320 laptop with Win 10 home (single language) 64-bit OS, Intel core i5 7200U @2.5GHz Kaby Lake-U/Y 14nm Technology CPU, 8GB Dual Channel 'unknown' @1064MHz (15-15-15-35) RAM, Lenovo LNVNB161216 (U3E1) Motherboard, Generic PnP Monitor (1366×768@60Hz), Intel HD Graphics 620 (Lenovo), 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce 940MX (Lenovo) Graphics Card, 931GB [1TB] Seagate ST1000LM035-1RK172 (SATA) HDD, PLDS DVD-RW DA8AESH Optical Drive and Realtek High Definition Audio. These are the information I got from  the 'Summary' tab of an app called 'Speccy'. I don't know what they mean really. I am writing this topic because my laptop has become very slow recently. From the task manager I saw that the Disk usage is sometime at 95-100% for a long time(more than 30-40 mins). But after some time it goes down to 5-15% at idle condition. The CPU doesn't give much trouble. Doesn't go upwards of 5% at idle and 30-45% when using Chrome or some light work. The main problem is the RAM. Doesn't matter what I do, don't go below 43% at idle. It's constantly at 3.4/7.9 GB even if I'm doing nothing. Is it normal? I don't think so because earlier my laptop used to run way faster than now. Boot time is very long now. The desktop loads in a minute or a bit more after I give the PIN. Apps take longer to load (I mean a lot) than before. Please can anyone help me. What should I do to improve the performance? I'll be very thankful.

chrome and windows kills the hard disk instantly every reboot , a few minutes not usable(right click not slow responding as symptom),

either get SSD (problem solved forever) or

optimise windows / disable startup apps/ services / settings etc.

use other OS instead of windows

if you have spare ram, you can consider ram cache (mostly not officially free) with pre fetch function

First of all, that's a lot of useful relevant info so good job there.

To keep it simple, you have a mechanical hard drive (HDD), that's the issue here.

Most systems use an SSD these days and I don't know why but recent W10 updates basically made an ssd a requirement because every system i see today with w10 and an HDD is REALLY slow. So, best option is to go to your local computer shop and get the HDD replaced with an SSD.

Or what might also be an option is to ditch the DVD drive and replace it with an SSD, allows you to keep the HDD for mass storage (useful if you have a bunch of games or whatever) and use the SSD for the OS and your programs.

The CPU spikes, very normal, nothing to worry about.

The RAM usage. very normal, again nothing to worry about.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3
