each monitor has a 3.5 but i tried the y cable and the sound was really buzzy

You need to quote a post or tag a member or else they won't get a notification you replied to them.

oh ok, i dont currently have the money for external speakers so i was trying to get this to work for now

The buzzing is most likely electric noise coming from the monitors themselves, a quick test could be to hold the cables away from each display, that may give you an indication of which one is causing the interference.  If that doesn't change anything you could try unplugging the audio cable from each monitor at the time, and see if the buzz disappears in the monitor that is still plug.

Aww, man that sucks.  I just saw there are more cases of the speakers breaking.  Though it seems some people have made it work again using VGA instead of DVI.

 

I guess you can test just switching the inputs, changing to vga should have no image but have sound.
