It's too early to say, nobody has shown gains from a perspective of already "ok" fps (i.e. 40 to xx frames) instead of a whopping 50% increase of 10 unplayable FPS to 15 unplayable FPS.

What we seem to have learnt from Mantle so far is:

It's a 5% performance boost for GPUs, nothing amazing, but a welcome site.

It's a ridiculous 50%+ performance boost for CPUs, which for me, as somebody running 2 280Xs with an i5, will do wonders for my BF4 performance

Well that high performance boost is for weaker CPUs so don't expect that high a number for your i5. Honestly, it seems more likely that Mantle will help mostly with AMD's APUs- hence the detailed discussions at APU 13.

We are having a discussion on that on OCN, it seems too high a number possible. One post that sums up what I think:

 

I don't buy the 55% increase with CFX 290s.

 

AMD's own numbers say that with a 290X you'll get a ~9.2% increase at 1080p. 

 

AMD GPUs on DX11.1 in crossfire and in BF4 scale something like 1.9x right? Even more than that according to some AMD slides. 

 

DICE numbers show a 55% increase over DX11.1 when in CFX. 

 

So using 100% as a baseline: 

 

DX11.1 290X = 100%

Mantle 290X = 109.2%

DX11.1 290X Crossfire = 190%

Mantle 290X Crossfire = 294.5%

 

Meaning that Crossfire scaling when using mantle is 2.7x

 

Even if you took a really conservative approach to scaling either the AMD number or the DICE number is wrong or skewed by the testing situation in question. 

 

Someone please explain how the math checks out with this one?

 

As a conclusion I'm waiting for reliable 3rd party numbers.

I have an A8-3850 APU but a Nvidia card. Would Mantle work for me/give me a FPS boost? (GTX 650ti Boost 2GB)

no, you need a GCN capable graphics card, neither your APU or nvidia GPU supports that currently.  If you upgraded your gpu to a 7xxx series or later, you could get some benefits.
