Thinking about saving for a laptop

So in march I plan on putting down a payment on my car I am currently paying off. Originally I had planned on saving for a second 7970 but it's not looking like prices are dropping anytime soon and I'm not paying 150$+ over msrp. So I was thinking I could really use a laptop to take to school everday and also game on. I've visited msi website and also cyberpowers website I've heard both make outstanding laptops without overcharging for a name brand like Alienware. I was wondering if anybody else had suggestions. Also what is the frame difference from a 765m and 770m? I'm wanting to spend around 1500

There was that Gigabyte laptop that Linus has on his channel that looks really nice, also MSI's gaming laptops are really nice too.

I love my G750 the only issue I have with it is probably the weight but I have got used to it (should not be a problem for long) also mine seems to run at the boost clock of 3.4GHz almost all the time if plugged in, you may also want to keep in mind laptops generally need to be plugged in to get any decent frames in intensive games otherwise everything throttles down.

If your already have a good desktop and want a good laptop for the go, I say its worth it.

So the 765M has a litte over 768 Cuda cores (similar to a GTX 650 Ti) and heavily underclocked memory, so will perform a tad worse than a desktop 650 Ti depending on the game. The Gigabyte gaming notebook that Linus showcased had dual 765M cards. That's 1536 Cuda cores, equivalent to a desktop GTX 770. It will probably perform slightly worse due to the slow memory clock, but this will vary from game to game. A 770M has the same number of Cuda cores (over 900) as a desktop GTX 660, to give you an idea how each will perform.

Essentially, the gigabyte notebook Linus looked at looks like a great option, as it's not too chunky (relative to something like an Alienware).

Not at all real world performance here my GTX 765m performs as well as a 650 ti boost and just under a 660

Does anybody know if the gigabyte laptops are backlit? Forgot about that thats important to me

The MSI GE, GS series is what i have been looking at they offer backlit keyboard and are pretty sleek

It has dual 750M in sli and a 1080p screen. Very nice laptop for the price ($999). You could use the extra $500 to up the ram or switch out the drive for a full SSD.

It has dual 765M (nearly 780m performance) while being 22.9mm thick and weighing 6.9lbs (2.9kg). Although it's pricy ($2099). It does come with two 128GB SSD in raid 0 and a 1TB 5400 rpm drive which is pretty nice.

I personally wouldnt bother with a gaming laptop and would just game on my desktop but gaming laptop are definitely getting better portable which personally i would rather play on a lower gfx setting to have a more portable laptop with better battery life.
