Hello All,

So earlier in 2013 I purchased an Asus Wireless AC66U Router and the Asus PCE-AC66 Networking adapter. Now ever since installation into the network there has been various issues with devices losing connection to the network or losing internet access but not network access.

Firstly it started with my HTC One which I has set to use both the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz bands. That issue was resolved by simply changing priority to only using the 2.4GHz band.

Also arising is the issue of my PC losing connection. The Asus utility software states that the PC is connected to the network, however the Windows networking solution says that there is a "Limited Network Connection" which basically means network access but no network access. This over time eventually resets and I can again use the internet. Lately however I have not been so lucky. My computer has been inaccessible for the last 4 days or so.

I have tried updating the router firmware, updating the Network Card Firmware and resetting all devices on the network including the modem and router in an attempt to update all the IP addressing. I assume that the issue is that two devices are being assigned the same external IP which in turn hinders either device from connecting to the Internet.

Since then at other random times, other devices have lost connection and unable to access the Internet with the same issue but this usually fixes itself with a reboot of the device. I have run IPCONFIG and all devices seem to have separate IPs yet the affected devices at the time all say that the 'media is disconnected'..

So basically i have come to the conclusion that the root of the problem lies within my PC. Whether that be the network card or something else. I believe it is the connection over the 5GHz band and some sort of interference with that as two device have been triggered with the same issue while using that band. So i plan to connect the computer over Ethernet for a week and see if anything happens. However would one issue from one device trigger a domino effect towards other devices on the network? If so then why have other devices been able to resolve the issue?

Does anyone have any ideas as to how i should approach the next phase of troubleshooting? Would be much appreciated.

Also to note, when I search my devices on my homegroup it appears to be missing, yet when i type the specific address of the PC I am able to connect through. Weird i know.

Some suggestions to attempt

how many devices do you have on your network? perhaps you are having a dhcp conflict based on the number of devices you have on your network. check the subnet mask, 255.255.255.0, if the last number of the subnet mask is not 0, please let us know this number.

Is it possible to disable the asus utility software and strictly use windows to manage the wifi? I have had issues in the past with the conflict between linksys management software and windows wireless manager, removed the linksys, everything worked perfectly.

are you in a highly populated area, where wireless signals are abundant? use a wifi analyzer to determine how many wireless connections are in your area, it might be possible that one of your neighbors recently upgraded causing interference.

I might think of more to ask you, and will make another post then.

Hope this helps in the mean time.

Yeah sometimes the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz dual band routers have problems

I have the Motorola SURFboard eXtreme router, and I just disabled the 2.4Ghz network I had no further problems.

Okay so since Yesterday I have moved my computer down right next to the router.

Since setting it all up and resetting everything I am still having troubles. When running Windows Network Troubleshooting it has come up with the issue that the Local Area Network does not have a valid IP Configuration. But while checking the router software, there appears to be the DHCP Conflict. Now once resetting all router and modem adapters again, all devices have no internet access.

We have 11 devices on the network, at the moment 9 are running off WiFi and 2 off of the LAN. When checking the subnet mask via IPCONFIG it was labelled, 255.255.0.0.

As a precaution i have disabled the Asus WiFi Card and turned off all 5GHz bands off of the other devices.

Currently we have no internet within the house and its really getting to the family. Please if anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

I find it interesting that you are having an IP conflict, are you able to view the device list from your router to determine based on mac address which devices are causing the ip conflict?

other that that I am out of ideas and my expertise of the dual band 2.5 & 5 GHz wireless is severely lacking.

Well for some reason now it has all sorted itself out and started working again. Im not to sure what was happening, but i completely reset the modem and also updated the router and then everything seemed to work.

My theory is that both devices we attempting to assign an address to the connected devices.

Thanks all for your help though.
