Hey everyone! I made a thread a fair while ago asking for you all to help me build my first computer, I'll post a link at the bottom if you want a reference but I'll try to summarise. After some people were helping me create and understand a build, I believe we came up with one and was looking pretty good. Before deciding to purchase these parts, I saw loads of forum posts and recommend articles about this new Ryzen coming out. I wasn't sure whether it was worth the wait but I decided to wait a little longer to get a firm opinion on this new processor.

Also I'm not good with computers so please correct me if I'm wrong or if I'm understanding anything incorrectly :)

As my current computer is rather old, it is unable to play music and browse through the web at the same time which causes a black screen, videos are played in slow motion and audio is disabled. Wasn't really looking for a workaround as it really struggles with general use and unfortunately it is also an Alienware. It's about time I looked towards an upgrade and at the same time, learn how to build!

I wanted to look into a computer build that can allow me to play games, record, stream and run video editing software with little to no performance issues. I am currently using a 1080p Samsung Smart TV but will be upgrading to a 1440p monitor next year when I move out as there is currently nowhere to put the monitor for the time being. I don't need any additional peripherals at the moment as they work perfectly fine!

I also found out about m.2 recently. I wasn't really sure what this meant but I assume it's paying a little extra for faster actions when opening programs and general use? I'm unsure if this is necessary for what I plan on doing.

Regarding the budget. I wanted to try and keep it around the £1000 mark but I know that I'm asking for a lot and I may not be able to run all these tasks without spending a little extra. I was wondering what the cheapest or the most optimal price to performance build would be. Also I feel comfortable cleaning the computer on a semi regular basis so I'm not sure if dust filters are an absolute necessity when it comes to cases.

Also sorry for this avalanche of text, I'll be able to respond and query some topics when I'm home from work tomorrow.

Thanks again for being patient with me but if you do compile a build, can you please tell me why you picked certain parts, why you chose them and so forth so I can try to learn for the future, that would be awesome!

The new Ryzen CPU's would give you a bit of a performance increase, but they are quite a bit more expensive than 2nd gen Ryzen CPU's that are almost a steal right now if you shop around. What is your price range? What will you be using this PC for? It looks like you received some good advice on the original thread...they were solid builds...was there something you didn't like about them?

The 3600 is the absolute bang for the buck now (gets you almost 8700k performance with half the price), the motherboard should work great with a simple bios update, 3200mhz memory is pretty much the sweet spot, for the memory i went with a cheap nvme ssd and a hdd for storage, an rx 5700 xt is sweet spot for 1440p gaming (you shouldn't get the one i linked though since they thermal throttle with that cooler design, but fear not they're releasing custom models next month), but if you're in a hurry or want raytracing then try looking for like a 2060 Super, the case looked decent and the psu should handle everything without problems

This is what i got for around 1000 GBP. ryzen 3600 is basically an 8700k. 16gb of 3200 ram for ryzen should be standard. Full NVME ssd storage for you, i don't think you'll need more than 1tb seeing you are upgrading from a crapbox. 2060 super is a great card, no reason not to  get it at this price point.

My price range wants to be close to £1,000 but I would rather spend more money if I know it will perform well and be able to run everything with ease. I plan on using this pc for streaming and recording games, running video editing software and adobe products. I may use additional programs like game and music design but I haven't decided on that yet.

They were great and informative in the other thread, I just saw so many people saying to wait that few extra weeks. I didn't know if it would mean changing the build dramatically or not as I'm not great with computers. Also not saying it in a rude way but everything was mentioned above :)

Also thank you for the 2 builds that you took the time to compile, I also appreciate that you kept it as close to £1,000 as you could. I wanted to ask if this would be able perform the tasks I wanted to do and at the same time. I'm happy to spend more money as long as I know it will last and run smoothly without any issues.

I was also wondering if I needed to buy additional fans as I've not had the luxury of multitasking multiple programs and games at the same time.

Thanks in advance, I'll respond after work as I'm on my lunch break! :D

There is nothing wrong with using prior gen Ryzen CPU's, for instance a Ryzen 2600 or 2600X. Yes, the new 3rd gen CPU's will be more future proof albeit a bit more expensive. However, since they use the same socket you can always upgrade down the road to a newer gen.

I've tried watching videos, reading articles and all that but I personally find it hard to know if a certain build will be able to perform everything I need to do. I'm sure you are all very knowledgeable when it comes to computers but does anyone have a website or anything they can link me to so that would help me understand it a bit better?

Thanks for getting back to me. Do you know how well this computer would run if I plan on recording and streaming a variety of games and at the same time multitasking other programs? I just want to make sure that it can run smoothly and perform well, even if that means spending more money. I haven't been able to multitask that well with my current computer so having that would be really great.

Sorry for the additional post but I wanted to learn from build options and see if I'm doing things right. I did some research and had a look at some articles and I believe I found a build that looks interesting. I would just like opinions and if I could improve on the build in anyway, please let me know. I decided to go with a little higher budget as I just want to make sure the computer runs smoothly and at high quality without performance issues.

A few questions regarding the build as well if that's alright! :D

1. I heard that some CPU's come with a CPU cooler and I was wondering if the one I chose needed one.

2. I want to keep everything in the computer nice and cool and was wondering if these fans will do the job. Would you recommend additional fans or a different type maybe?

3. Finally I'm still unsure about the case, I'm not too worried about the flashing lights and such but I'm not sure if getting a case with pre-built fans will be enough or installing your own fans will be more efficient and reliable.

Also sorry again for any late replies, I'll be heading to work shortly but I'm looking forward to being heavily criticised and learning what the best path to take will be.

Thanks again and if you do make any changes, please let me know why you made the changes so I can learn from that :D

Does anyone know which direction to take? I'm not sure if I need to upgrade the graphics card, if the fans are great or if I need the CPU cooler. If anyone has a better build, please let me know why you made the changes so I can learn for the future!

I'll provide a small list below of my plans to save you looking through the avalanche of text.

- I plan on streaming and recording both low and high end games at 1080p over 60 fps with the ultra graphic settings.

- I would like to have the ability to multitask as my current computer occasionally struggles to play music and browse the internet at the same time.

- I'm currently using a 1080p TV and would like it to be suitable for a 1440p monitor as I will be able to get one once I move out as I have no room currently.

- I'd like the performance to be really fast and no issues when I run multiple programs.

- Regarding budget, I'm not sure how much I need to spend to get this "optimal build". I believe I need to get better parts but I'm not sure what is and isn't necessary.

If I can get a rough guideline and for someone to explain any changes, that would be great!

This is the last post I'll make if there are no updates. No worries if people are unsure what to do with my situation, I appreciate the assistance from the previous thread and this one. I have a friend helping me build so I will compare any recommendations from here and from him. Hopefully from there, I can get this started and enjoying playing a game!
