Yo guys,

I have been wondering what kind of ultrabook sld i get i am currently using a macbook pro mid 2014, might look around for a ultrabook (probably a razer blade stealth due to its build quality and the ips panel) or msi PS63 modern. i will set my budget about 1.6k i think, I have a gaming desktop at home so probably wont do much gaming on it,  just pure college work where i will be using VMware, visual studio for coding all sort of IT related stuff

What are your thoughts?

Avoid the Blade Stealth - it's got multiple design oversight and issues. Is not reliable at the least. While the chassis is rigid, the motherboard components and design is horrible. Won't last long at all.

Look into business laptops - the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon or HP EliteBook 745 for example. Both are MUCH more durable and reliable.

Then consider a ThinkPad T480 or L480. Or another Elitebook model that is available. I was simply giving examples. In reality, any business laptop will be worlds better than the blade.

max battery life

If you want an Ultrabook with dGPU, chances are the dGPU will have low throttling point - will throttle if you play games for like 10 mins. Fine with that?

Sorry for the late reply

Forgot to ask: Mind low sRGB display and non-upgradeable RAM?

Would suggest getting business grade laptops since your budget allows

Lenovo Thinkpad T490 customize - with MX250 10W, 400 nits FHD / 500 nits WQHD

Lenovo Thinkpad T495 customize - R5/R7, 8GB onboard (add another 8GB by your own), 400 nits IPS, 65W adapter

Lenovo Thinkpad T495s customize - R5/R7, 16GB RAM, 400 nits IPS, 65W adapter

Lenovo Thinkpad X395 customize - R5/R7, 16GB RAM, 300 nits IPS, 65W adapter

Not sure on battery life in those Ryzen models but should be at least 6 hrs in light loads

TBH there aren't many models with good display+16GB RAM+decent GPU+low weight in your budget
