Hey,

I'm looking to upgrade the SSD on my Dell XPS 15 9560 to get more storage, as I want to dual-boot Windows 10 and Linux (Specifically, Manjaro). My laptop currently has some SK Hynix SSD. I've never heard of this company and up until yesterday actually thought I had gotten a Samsung SSD installed (they may have switched it out when I fried the laptop earlier this year, but I digress...)

The Corsair Force MP510 960GB m.2 SSD has caught my eye, mainly because it is on sale on Newegg right now for $169.99 CAD.

There's a 1TB HP EX920 SSD for the same price.

I considered the Intel 660P but the LLT video on it and QLC turned me away from it.

I don't know very much about SSDs compared to other hardware components so I'm hoping to get some advice on here. I'm going to use the SSD for dual-booting, playing and installing games, as well as working wtih FL Studio though the files shouldn't be too big. I'll also hopefully be doing some programming. I don't need Samsung 970 level speeds here, I'm not down to spend $300+ CAD for an SSD... The most I'm willing to go is probably $200 CAD. I'm hoping to have 450 GB for each OS (I don't know if, or expect, all 960GB or 1TB of storage space to be available).

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Hey,

I have the exact same laptop and am looking to do the same thing. \

I do believe I've read somewhere that the XPS 15 9560 only has two lanes of PCIe running to the M2 SSD slot so that will hinder performance somewhat. However it will still likely be faster than your factory SSD, with the bonus of the extra space.

Also I'd go with the Corsair force MP510, but see if you can find a great deal on the 2TB to make the upgrade worth the trouble.

Yeah so I ended up going with the Corsair MP510 and it's working like a charm. But the 960GB model only had ~893GB of usable storage so that kind of sucks...
