Anything better than this laptop at this price range (£600-£800)

  • Intel Core i5-7300HQ Quad Core Processor
  • 15.6" Full HD IPS Screen
  • Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit
  • 8GB 2400MHz DDR4 RAM
  • 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD
  • Dedicated GeForce GTX 1050 2GB Graphics

HP Pavilion Power 15. £599. I'm after a rather discreet looking laptop that I can use for both university and for some decent gaming and this seems alright. Are there any alternatives to this within the range of £600 - £800 that might be preferable?

Thanks!

Everything is better than this - the 7300HQ is slow by modern standards and the 1050 is not really great for gaming. The newer Pavillion models come with a 4/8 9300H and a 1650

Specs aside, it's a Pavilion Gaming....

Would up budget for a better model with newer specs

I struggled to find something higher spec within a reasonable price range. I did, however, find this. It's the Pavilion Gaming 15 (top screenshot), as opposed to the Pavilion Power 15. For exactly £100 more the CPU is an I5-8300H instead of an I5-7300HQ and the GPU is a GTX1050TI 4GB instead of a GTX1050 2GB. Unfortunately, the more expensive one appears to be a downgrade on the storage front but I can't complain about 128GB of SSD storage considering thats enough to put the OS, my browser, and key programmes on. Do you think the upgraade, if it can be described as that, is worth the £100? Are there any better alternatives at this price point?

The Pavilion Gaming 15, the top screenshot, is £699. The Pavilion Power 15 is £599.

MUCH better - that's a 40% increase in both CPU and GPU performance.

Like I said, avoid Pavilion Gaming....bad cooling, questionable build quality
